If you're going to be in Cartagena for more than one day... look to visit on a clear day for a heavenly view from La Popa of Cartagena. Of course, the convent and church are peaceful anytime with any weather. ...and with a new road (this past year), it is an easier trip via taxi or uber. Best to have... More

The outside is nothing to write home about but once inside there is a nice small cloister with some benches to just sit and contemplate a bit. There is a good view of the city all around. There are alot of vendors right outside the ticket booth so if you do want to buy something, bargain away.

Ignore the hawkers and peddlers - always wear a hat thus avoiding the most prevalent hat sales people in the world and carry a bottle of water allows you to gain entry into La Popa relatively unscathed. Once inside it's not exactly an oasis of calm and sanctity as cruise ship visitors don't seem to understand the meaning of solemnity... More

This place is gorgeous! We did this as part of an overall tour and it was very beautiful. The views are amazing and interior of the structure was like walking around in a museum. The whole 500 years of history thing is just awe-inspiring. What these walls have been through is just that.

La Popa Monastery offers the most fantastic views over the entire city of Cartagena. The hilltop location means you can see all around the city - especially the walled city and Boca Grande. We took our own cab ride to the top and had him wait. We paid the small admission fee and walked around and looked for ourselves. It... More

Take a taxi, with the heat it is harder than you think. Tell him to wait ( 1 hour) and it should cost be no more than $ 5 ( yes both ways and with the wait) but no meters in the taxis so make sure you agree on price before and only pay once you are back in old... More
