The Convento of Santa Cruz (Holy Cross) is a lovely little former monastery founded in 1607 by followers of St. Augustine that you'd probably dismiss if it were at street level. But it isn't; it sits at 492 feet above sea level, the highest point...More

It has been two months since I visited La Popa Monastery on an afternoon tour of Cartagena and the only thing that remains etched in my memory is the view. The 400-year-old monastery, restored in 1964, spreads across a 500-foot hill, the highest point in...More

The view of the city from this site is beautiful. I recommend taking a taxi to go up there. The entrance costs 11000 Colombian pesos/person. Worth the visit.

I've been here several times just to take new comers up to see the view of the city. Beautiful vista of Cartagena. It's an old monastery so some interesting history as part of their museum, but it's a 20min visit tops. If you go up,...More

The Monastery is built on top of a hill and commands a great view of the city and the sea. One thing to keep in mind is that apparently there's no taxi or Uber service from there, and you must contract the taxi to take...More

Aside from the absolutely great view of Cartagena the Popa has wealth of religious history to be observed. The court yard garden is beautiful and is a great place to take pictures. The Chiva bus ride to the top is also a lot of fun.

La Popa was well worth the trip!! 22 mil for 2 people is a very reasonable price. It costed us 30 mil for the taxi. Beautiful inside....great view of the cities down below!!!

The taxi fee to get there is expensive. Then, you get there and immediately someone wants to be your "guide" - of course, that represents another fee. Then, you visit inside, but it is not very impressive... The view outside is beautiful. You can see...More

Do not attempt to walk or hike because it is not safe. We took a taxi and the driver waited for us until we finished. One hour is plenty of time up there. There is a museum and a chapel. A very serene courtyard in...More

There are a set of stairs at the entrance. I'm sorry but I don't recall if there is a wheelchair ramp. I do know there are tour companies that will take you there that will provide wheelchair access for you.

There might have been some accommodations for wheelchairs, but there are stairs to navigate, and the monastery was never constructed with wheelchair access in mind. I did not notice any handicap accessibility measures. As a... More
