It doesn't look like much from the ground, but it's fun to explore, especially the dungeons and cellars. Skip the audiotour and just look up the Wikipedia page instead... more information, better presented and free. It's worth a walk through, it's a great historical spot.

First time we did it by ourselves about noon, it was very hot and we didn't understand much. Next time we did it as part of the daily Chiva trip, it was afternoon, not much sun and the guide was really good, English speaker, so that was a whole different experience.

As we made the trek to the top of San Felipe, we met our guide. We paid extra for an English speaking guide as a couple of people in my group didn't have very strong Spanish. We should have gotten a Spanish guide and I would have translated. Despite the difficult to understand guide, the fort is pretty amazing and... More

From there you can see most of the city and Cartagena bay. Prepare your legs to walk upwards! Beautiful.

Only saw the fort from the bus....very large and impressive. If we are ever in that neck of the woods again, it would be a definite must see.

It was very disappointing going in this Castle. It actually didn't really feel like a castle, the view isn't what I expected and it is overpriced. Don't feel bad to miss it, Cartagena has plenty to offer!

It's a historic site and one that I believe is worth visiting. For a few bucks, you gain entrance to this landmark, which is significant for its role in the defense of Cartagena. The view of Old City and Boca Grande across the water is beautiful, and definitely a photo opportunity. Worth the couple hours to walk out here and... More

One of the largest fortress build by the Spaniards. I was surprised that it is not surrounded by water, but it is impressive and huge. Rich in history and it was able to withstand attacks from the pirates. Lots of underground tunnels. When you enter the climb is a big steep, but it is worth the visit!

My husband and I were mesmerized by everything about this place. The history is so rich, and it is easy to imagine the soldiers lives here. We visited it for the first time at 8am when it opened. It was perfect, we were the only two people in line to get tickets and headsets, the vendors had not yet set... More

If you visited La Popa, don’t bother walking to the top. This is really a brief stop, some photos and move on. It has a nice history and is a legitimate landmark, but not worth a bunch of time.
