First, we were told that we could not be picked up at our cruise ship and had to make our way to the heart of Cartagena old town, which we did (took about 40 minutes). Then we had to wait for another couple to arrive...More
Our family of six wandered the many stalls, and bargained for fruit. It was smelly and filled with all manner of folks and it was REAL. I would only say watch out for the crazy motorcyclists and cars on the edges of the market...I would...More
What a treat this was! We love to visit the local markets when we travel. This market is not to be missed. We have gone to many food markets around the world, but we have never seen anything like this. So much fresh produce, poultry...More
I loved trying all the fruits and seeing the real daily life. Was very very thankful I paid for a tour with guide. Otherwise, I might not have found my way out of that labyrinth of shops and stands.

We drove about 30 minutes from the heart of Cartagena to get to the Mercado Bazurto, As we approached, we could see the Cienaga de Las Quintas Lake on one side of the road and the market on the other. This is how you get the...More
Had a stroll around this lively and bustling market this morning. Selling anything and everything. It is HUGE so you can get lost in it. Found people friendly and engaging and you can try the fruits. If you want a colombian hat or trainers you...More

My guide was my driver -- the driver was set up by the hotel Sofitel. we simply paid him extra to not only drive us to the Mercado but to escort us through the Mercado as well. It is a large space and I am glad i had a guide to go through the alleyways and paths in the Mercado. It would have been confusing without the guide.
We were very pleased with Duran Duran Tours. They took us to market where we shopped for items that we then used to prepare a meal in their home. Cooking class was good and made going to the market purposeful.
