This has to be the best kept secret to visit in the entire cartagena!! Unlike the aweful bocagrande beach scenar, this place is a nice getaway for some peace, fun and relaxation! There are a few vendors here, but they are not pushy and actually have items that you may need....beverages, fruit, food, flotation devices for children...ect. This is part of my long jogging trail which runs by the small lagoon that connects with the city all the way to the miletary complex at the northern end of bocagrande district. They have small boat tours available, kayaking, paddleboards, chairs and canopys, and the water is really shallow. There are many pelicans and various birds along the waters edge that like the attention, as well. This is a really good place to go as a family gathering and actually have a good time! This place gets a 4-5 rating because it is nothing spectacular, but such are nice beach alternative!

I actually found this beach one day when I was jogging around the bocagrande oennisula region. This beach is nothing to brag about and is actually with the harbour, not the ocean. However, finding a beach where you can actually get some private time and rest and relaxation is a huge discovery here. (please read my bocagrande beach review)
This area is more tranquil and is very scenic. You have large ships in the harbour, large hills on the other side, and a natural creek that leads to a lake at the very end. This is where i go because you are away from the few vendors that are there. There is a large rock breaker by the creek and there a huge pelicans there that you can get very close and take their photo! The beach also over boat tours, various fun beach activities and the vendors have just the basic needs that you will need! Food, water and beer! The place is easily within walking distance from any of the bocagrande hotels! This is a great place ton take your family because you can go out in the water almost forever and it still is not very deep.

The beach has nice soft dark sand. There are cabannas with chairs available to rent & venders with food & beverages prowl the beach. There are no beach bars or retaurants on the beach.. The locals ( shockingly) tend to be litterbugs but there are people that show up in green coveralls that pick-up after them?

While the beaches in Cartagena have a bad reputation, this is a very nice, quiet beach to enjoy in the city. While not as beautiful as the nearby white sand beaches, it is still beautiful, with warm water to enjoy. Best of all, there are far fewer vendors here, making the beach much more enjoyable than Bocagrande.

Great beach but watch out for people pretending to rent shaded areas or tents. They will pretend to rent you a tent and escape with your money. The real renters of the beach are marked in blue uniforms and look official.

This area is quieter than Bocagrande beach but is full with vendors too. We find the best way to stay on the beach to be staying on the water, without having an umbrella, with just a few things left on the beach. But the vendors are coming in the water too....there are vendors everywhere.

We spent a day at Castillo Grande and enjoyed ourselves. Immediately after stepping out of the taxi (8K pesos from San Diego neighborhood), a man in a blue uniform offered us a shaded area with two chairs for 15K pesos flat for the day. We’d planned on laying out towels but the sand was very hot and no one seemed to be doing that so we opted for the canopy and were glad we did.

Vendors come by regularly, but with the exception of a few persistent would-be massagers, they all kept walking when we indicated we weren’t interested. Throughout the day we bought a fried fish (10K) and a bag of mango slices (4K), both of which were good. Other vendors were selling ice cream, beverages, ceviche, and full lunches.

I was a little nervous about the water quality after reading other reviews but it was fine. It isn’t the picturesque, clear Caribbean water, but anyone who has spent time on the Atlantic Coast of the USA won’t bat an eyelash. I did not find it to be dirty or polluted.

For a Sunday in the summer, it was not particularly crowded. Overall it was a pleasant beach day at a very accessible location.

Other than the beach there are no restaurants or shops in this area, but it is worth going for a walk to enjoy the views of the sea and of this upmarket residential area.

Nice beach, with good quality of the water. It's way more quite the the Bocagrande beach close by. There are also vendors coming by but they accept a no and leave you alone mostly. Definitely recommended for a nice day at the beach and relaxing from the city.
