IN this museum you get to see how the sugar cane business has evolved and industrialized going trough how sugar cane used to be extracted with wooden tools to more advanced windmill techniques amongst other curious and interesting facts surrounding the industry as well as the region.

This museo is located in Amaime, a semi rural town one-and-a-half hours north of Cali city. we paid an Uber driver $7/hour to take us and wait. There’s no public transport to the place but we also saw tour buses. Admission was about $4 and then you give a voluntary tip to the guide who explains the process of sugar cane crop, extraction and sugar/panels production as used in the 19th century. All of this while walk-in over 1 km through a tranquil and well maintained botanical gardens with 450 varieties of plants. Highly recommended for all ages including elderly people on wheelchairs as there is a paved walkway throughout. The tour takes an hour and you can buy honey and sugarcane products. Very interesting

Sugar Cane Museum is more park then a museum. Our local friend was very excited to show us this nice museum, on outskirts of the city. However, after 2 hours of the car ride, few missed turns and directions from the locals we finally found it. Its located in the base of the mountains and represents local sugar cane farming industry throughout the history. Its a nice walk with lush greenery and few historic artifacts scattered along the path. For a non speaking visitor, this was a shot in the dark. I was clueless what was going on and what am I looking at. No description was provided on any of the sightseeing points. The main house was the highlight of the visit as its a original plantation building from the 2 centuries ago. The museum was guarded by the heavily armed military (?) so I felt safe and relaxed.
Not far from the museum, one must visit the local restaurant Siga La Vaca Parilla in Santa Lena.

Great exposure to both a spanish colonial hacienda and the history of Panela production throughout the whole country. Definitely worth the drive from Cali.

Interesting tour through the garden scattered with old sugar processing equipment. Visit La Maria hacienda not far away in the same trip.

It's very well done but really... it's sugar. If you have nothing else to do on a bad weather day, check it out.

I went with my family and some friends and enjoyed an interesting guided tour to learn about the sugar cane processing evolution and also the way people lived many years ago in this zone and Colombia in general. Many tv shows were filmed there in the past.

I recommend taking a day trip to the Sugar Cane Museum near Palmira. About 45 minutes northeast from from Cali. The hour long tour fits in well with a trip to nearby Buga and the Isaacs Hacienda. The Museum tour is in Spanish so you may need a translator if you struggle with Spanish. But, you can appreciate the historical progression of sugar cane mills over the centuries, as well as the natural botanical gardens.
