Dongtou island is a beautiful place to go to get away from the city bustle. I enjoyed spending the day here even with a few bumps in the road.
First, I took the bus from Wenzhou Xincheng station to Dongtou bus station which was 23 ¥. Once you arrive to the bus station you must grab a taxi to the top of the island. If you're hungry eat by the bus station bc food is limited once you go to the top!! Between my friend and I the taxi was 30¥. Once there, you must pay a beach entrance fee of 50¥. From there you can walk down the steps or take a short ride (5¥) to the beach. We chose to walk and saw cabins you can rent out.

We ate at the 1 restaurant by the beach which was okay. Prices are bumped up for foreigners.

The scenic walk was amazing and worth every yuan. Everything was so green & stunning. We made it to the end by the tunnel. After that we walked up the steps & found the suspended bridge! Best part of the day.

Check it out if you can. There's another part of the island with a glass walkway but that is closed until further notice. If it has opened please comment bc I would love to see it!

You need a vehicle or a driver.

From Wenzhou City to Dongtou is approximately 90 min bus ride. Cost is 23 RMB from 新城站XinChengZhan (New City Bus Terminal). When you arrive in Dongtou terminal, ironically also called XinChengZhan (New City Bus Terminal) you then need to get on another bus. This will cost you 7 RMB + Beach Entrance Fee of 30 RMB.

Be fair warned, the bus only goes to and from the beach in the morning and night. There is NO SERVICE between 1PM to 5PM. You have to then take a taxi which costs double.

After arriving at the beach entrance, you need to walk down a series of steps. Easily 100 plus steps down before you get to the beach area. However there is a golf cart people mover which charges 5 RMB per person to go up and down the mountain side. Suggestion is to use the cart going back up the mountain.

Beach itself is clean - lots of cleaners walking around picking up litter. Brown sand which dirties up the water. Water was NOT blue but closer to a brownish color. This is due to sediment not pollution.

Beach is actually an inlet, no bigger than a football field wide. Water is not that deep and you are not allowed to go too far out. There is a net that prohibits you from going too far out. Water is broken up into five areas, swimming, wading, small personal water craft etc. Lifeguards patrol the central area.

If you want a seat on a patio chair on the beach it will cost you 50 RMB for two hours.

Any food is very expensive from a Chinese perspective but from a western perspective, it is expensive but tolerable. There is very little choice. A seafood restaurant outside, BBQ down on the sand level, coffee shop on the of the landing.

If you want to see other parts of the island, you need to have your own vehicle OR be part of a travel tour.

In summary, it was not worth the effort to go. There are better beaches and better tourist experience for the money.

I think the best way to feel the island is to have a road trip around is and stop anywhere, where is safe, and view the scenic beauty, feel the fresh&salty wind, and take pictures. They do not have many coffee shop here, but they have many comfortable teahouses. You can enjoy tea and snack during chatting with your friends. The life is slow here.
Although the sand on beaches are not white and bright, which is dark yellow I guess, they are soft and comfy to have a walk. The sand also makes coastal water "unclear" but it is clean blue and green during "peace and calm" weather lol. Off coastal water are completely clean especially during good weather days.
.......
I miss the days there and really want to go there again. It must have changed a lot and it must have not changed in nature.
