Still Worth Seeing in Urumqi
Apr 2021
The Grand. Bazzar is the one of main attractions in Urumpi. Security is the very tight here. Police patrol large sections of the facility. Place stays open to about 9pm. You can buy most things here. However, not many bargains. Prices are similar to normal stores. However, still good to buy some souvenirs. Good to experiences at night time.

Touristy but still worth a go
Oct 2019 • Couples
There isn’t much to see around Urumqi, but the bazaar is definitely the highlight of the city. It was also our first destination in Xinjiang after traveling from central china, so we were getting used to how things work in Xinjiang etc, police presence everywhere and having to go through metal detectors multiple times a day. There were many stalls selling trinkets, but almost every other stalls were selling the same mass Manufactured souvenirs.

The food stalls too were very touristy, but they do look good and price were reasonable. I remember there was a naan museum, where all variety of naans were for sale. But we chose to walk a few streets away from the bazaar for lunch at a local uigher restaurant.

Truly a Grand Bazar
May 2019
One of the most interesting City Markets I've every visited. Filled with local crafts and regional dried fruits that are very atypical to the Western eye. Vendors were very friendly and skilled bargainers--bring your best game, including walking off to get the best prices. Very large area with great variety, plan for a full day to see and enjoy it all.

Uyghur bazar in Hanzu city
Dec 2019
The Bazzar is nice in the sense that it gives an impression of Uyghur/central asian bazzar. On the other hand it is very touristy and the prices are relativley high for all the produce. I do not recommend paying to go up the tower.

Cool, but very touristy
Jun 2019
It's a cool place to see, but very touristy feeling and not a huge standout compared to other things in the area. People are incredibly friendly though.

One of the best parts of Urumqi!
Oct 2019 • Friends
This was a place my friends and I went to over and over during our stay in Urumqi! Really fun environment. The music and dancing is what makes the place really cool. Make sure you get out and dance with the locals!

Lots of shops and stores to check out and a real cool mosque at the center. A must see at Urumqi.

Many stalls selling all kinds of things
Sep 2019
This is a very new bazaar and everything is well organized. It’s better to come after 7 pm because there are free music presentations in the square. Be prepared to bargain if planning to buy souvenirs.

It is Grand Bazaar - world's largest
Jul 2019
When I was in Urumqi, I found Grand Bazaar area the most busiest, colourful and exciting. Indeed it is the largest bazaar in the world.

For over a mile on both sides of the street, the kiosks are lined up to sell food (90% sell food). Kiosks are also placed in the middle of the road, therefore, vehicle traffic is cordoned off. Hundreds of people were seen buying food. When I went to buy beverages, the girl told me to pay in token in Chinese. I showed her cash but she refused. This surprised me because I thought cash is the king - but not in Grand Bazaar.

So I moved further to another kiosk where they sold BBQ chicken. I showed him cash but he spoke in Chinese and I understood to mean 'no'. It turned out that everybody accepted token coupons but not cash. One seller was kind enough to direct me to a store where I could buy token after paying cash. I had to stand in line in scorching sun for few minutes. So the tourists need to know that in Grand Bazaar no cash is accepted. It is unusual but that is how it is.

Walking further I saw a stage pavilion so proceeded towards it. To my luck, around 4 pm, a Chinese cultural dance started. It was nice.

Coming out of Bazaar on the main road, many boutique shops were there and it was good shopping experience. Grand Bazaar is a place not to be missed.

Fun place to spend some time
Sep 2019 • Friends
Remember to bring your passport, otherwise you won’t be allowed in. The place is quite amusing, with some local art craft, lots of dried fruits and nuts, colorful scarves, etc. Prices were high, and you are probably going to be able to haggle and bring them down.
I was there in the afternoon and there was some exciting music and dancing, which was quite contagious. With the subway, it has become much easier to visit this place. Inside the Bazaar, we went to a quite good Xinjiang style restaurant, which was quite reasonable.
