We were there late October and it was off-peak. We came here as we had an extra day in Urumqi and didn't know where to go. This place is about 1.5-hr bus ride from Urumqi. We took the bus from the South Bus Station.
The Ranch was extremely quiet (bordering dead) during our visit. The entrance fee was RMB45. There were not more than 15 visitors in the entire ranch. ;-) Most of the time, we felt as though we were the only visitors as we hardly bumped into people as we strolled.
We did enjoy the walk in snow to the Rainbow Waterfall which took about 1 hour plus including photo stops. You could ride a horse to do this.
The bus driver told us that summer is the peak season where the blossoming wild flower is a sight to behold.
Overall, a good place to enjoy a leisure stroll if you have extra time in Urumqi. ;-)

We arrived by bus from Urumqi. After walking the mountains for hours, we slept in one of the yurts for one night before making our way back to Urumqi. It was great to have the time to explore the mountains.
The water fall in the park was fine, but it was crowded by tourists. I enjoyed more walking around the mountains and just enjoying the Nanshan nature,

Nice green fields that used to be a ski resort. If you hired a car to get out there, try to go beyond the tourist yurt camps and there is a small parking space that can be used as a base for a short hike. We went on a cool and slightly rainy day...I think it will be quite hot on a mid summer day.

All you can do is to sit in the yurt and drink some tea. There is nothing much to see and the toilet is primitive. The place is meant to show racial harmony only.

I visited here as part of a 5 day tour of Xinjiang. It was lovely to walk around the pastures and ride a horse. There is also a shuttle bus to the waterfall if you don't want to walk or ride a horse. The waterfall was very beautiful and we enjoyed relaxing there and taking some photos. We slept in a yurt and had a meal cooked by a local family on the night. The food was delicious. The yurt was rather crowded as we had a large group but it was definitely an experience. If you plan to sleep in a yurt make sure to bring some extra layers as we were only provided with a fairly thin duvet and it gets very cold on the night!

Probably it's early winter that we went. There were no one around, ticket booth is closed, shops are no where to be seen. We drove almost 2 hours from urumqi to the pastures. We were greeted with nobody and not much of a view too. No cattles were seen and the snow were melting away. Please ask before you go if there is anything else you expect to see there.

We went there in an early morning. It was a very beautiful place with mountain ranges, waterfall and wild flowers. Watch out for the high pricey lunch. We paid CNY400 for 20 sticks of mutton, 5 bowls of rice and a plate of fried potatoes.

Lovely area and a good walk to the waterfall. We were travelling with small children, so we took the mini golf cart ride to the waterfall. It is recommended if you have little kids. Other options are also horseback ride to the falls. But some parts of the rolling pastures are strewn with trash. Which is a pity as the place is so beautiful. Wish there was a better management and proper trash disposal cans. The one hilltop we climbed up to has a broken trash can and the trash was strewn around everywhere.

This is one of the tourist sights offered by many local travel agents in URUMQI. The tour takes only half a day, as it is not too far from URUMQI. Nothing too exciting about the RANCH; may be for those who has not been to a ranch, it is something different! The view is acceptable; and for city forks, it offers a different perspectives. Those who have been to Mongolia, New Zealand, U.S.......it may be a different story. Spring may be a better time to visit; however, it provides a cooling off place in the Summer.
