We came here on a cloudy Saturday afternoon during National week, after hearing about it through some colleagues.

The journey from Chengdu is long and cramped but when you arrive it does not disappoint. At the base of the hill there are food stalls with Chinese bbq for a very reasonable price (around 2¥ per stick). The wall itself is across 2 mountains and despite being steep is fairly easy to climb and the views are breathtaking. When you reach the top carry on walking a little further (5minutes) and you reach the Golden Dragon Temple which is a traditional temple and is beautiful! Bring some change to throw in the fountain and enjoy an Ice cream/ drink at the top.

Although the tickets for the wall are very cheap at 10¥ we were slightly disappointed to find that the price is one way, in order to come back down the mountain you must either purchase a new ticket or go through the woods. The woods are beautiful but I imagine would be very slippery when wet.

If you’re in Chengdu for a few days it is worth coming here for half a day and then spending the afternoon on Luodai town.

I was sceptical at first, since I was told it's nothing close you the Wall in Beijing but once I got there it was simply breathtaking. The wall is an impressive 5300 steps or 1200m long. Quite a commitment to go through all of it. It's totally worth it and absolutely rewarding health wise. The Dragon awaits when you reach the top.

The Golden Dragon Great Wall of Luodai is located about 20 minutes outside of the Luodai Ancient Town. I took a small covered scooter to the wall and I wasn't sure if we were going to make it as the hills got pretty steep - but we did.

The wall is as described and while not as discussed impressive as the other Great Wall it is quite the challenge to climb it from one end to the other.

When you reach the end keep going and visit the temple that is just a bit higher than the end of the wall - it's worth it.

I suggest visiting the ancient town first as afterwards my legs were aching - I'm off to get a massage now.

Enjoy!!!

After having seen pretty much everything in Chengdu, we decided to visit Luodai. Big mistake. It turns out this wall was built in 2000, and is lined with vendors selling lollipops and syrup cakes. Pay 10 RMB to climb the wall and pay more for barbecued quail on top because you couldn’t possibly have walked 5000 steps for nothing. Two stars because the quail on a stick tasted good. Previous reviews say there are “breathtaking” views from the top, but it was just hills and plants. The three (long, bumpy, non-air conditioned) bus rides from downtown Chengdu made me wonder why we bothered. Spend more time at the ancient town, only two bus rides from Chengdu.

It is located near Luo Dai Ancient Town

There are many ways to get here,
By Public Bus no 853
By Car offered by local people, usually it costs 5 CNY for one way trip, don't let them charge you more than 10 CNY per person

There are a lot of restaurants at the surrounding area, but its better to eat at Luo Dai Ancient Town before

Buy the entrance ticket at the lowest part of the stairs, other wise you will go up ahead and need to return to buy the ticket

It takes 1.5-2hours to go up and down the great wall

Cheap entrance ticket and good view

From Luodai Old Town you can reach the Golden Dragon Great Wall by taking the 853b bus. The day I went it was unfortunately raining very heavily. The wall is a lot narrower than the real great wall. Very steep in some places, so is difficult for small children. This one was built purely for tourists, but is fun nevertheless. A nice escape for the day from the city. Some people I know have also been horse riding nearby. Cost about 10 RMB to walk the wall.

I headed here fully aware of the fact that this wall is NOT part of the Great Wall, but as I am living in Chengdu for 3 months and had seen (or had plans to see) all the other attractions I figured this was worth a trip. I would not recommend this place if you have any kind of time restraints in the area, with the high speed train quickly able to get you to places like Qingcheng, EMei and LeShan this place is most definitely not worth the effort.

If you have seen the actual Great Wall of China then don't waste your time here, if you haven't seen the actual Great Wall of China but have always wanted to then definitely don't waste your time here. The 'wall' is actually mostly stairs, the amazing views that I had read on others reviews were of farmland, and not amazing at all, and the wall isn't very long nor does it have any shelter or seats for you to rest on whilst tackling all of the stairs. The entrance fee is cheap, but is only one way, I'm not sure if the shuttle bus at the top was free or came at an additional cost as my friend and I turned back around to walk back the way that we had come. They stopped us at the gate but as we speak no Chinese they obviously decided it wasn't worth the effort to explain to us that we needed to buy another ticket to go back again, and so after a minute of discussion amongst themselves they simply let us back in.
The only saving grace for the day was that for some reason it was not very crowded, had it been then the 2 hours we spent on there would have been hell, as it was, they were merely a little dull and very hot

This great wall has nothing to do with "the Great Wall of China". That said, it's still quite a feat -- both engineering and human. Just as importantly, if offers a magnificent view of the area, including some very impressive statues and a temple along the trail. Definitely worth a visit

We got the metro to longquanyi and from there we took the local bus no 853 to Luodai. From there we went to the place by van. Then finally we reached our destination, the Golden Dragon Great Wall. I was so cool and at the entrance we need to take a ticket, it costed only 10 RMB. And then we need to climb. The first half is kinda too steep. But it was full of fun though. I'll give a simple tip. Always buy a popsicle at each an every junction(hut) you meet. It'll be a great help for you. Carry an umbrella and a cap or a hat. The day I went was too hot, and it was unbearable even. Don't stop, end it soon. Cause it'll be a great assure when u meet the two posts which says 4132 steps and 5300 steps. And then you will meet the Dragon... Enjoy the trip. Need to admit that it's tiring. But awesome. ;)
