We went out to this place not knowing what to expect but it was better than my expectations. It's mostly a Tibetan fair of sellers in booths with tables lined up with the usual beads and arts & crafts and books and antiques that you can easily bargain for. Never take the first price. The place covers nearly a full block but there's one section where all the stalls run along side the river that I liked the best. Buy something or just spend time walking through and looking around the place.

I was in Chengdu to see the Giant Pandas and strolled around the Market. It is the arts and crafts area of Chengdu. I got some good purchases. Lots of variety. I stayed away from the skulls. Was afraid to ask.

The Song Xian Qiao antique market was great to just wander around for an hour or so, there was some quite interesting knick knacks, didn't really see any 'real antiques' (although it was early and things were still opening); the Shu embroidered pictures were pretty amazing, and was great to see some of the artists at work.

This was an interesting place but I was hoping for a bit more. I've been to similar places in Shanghai and Beijing and found lots more and at more reasonable prices. Chengdu is just different and that takes some getting used to. This isn't a tourist town and the market forces are obviously different. This area is much more geared to locals and not many people speak any English. Nothing wrong with that just makes finding things you want a little more difficult. There are some beautiful pieces here, just not a lot of selection, and to be honest they're probably real as opposed a reproduction in the other areas. Unfortunately I was sort of hoping for reproductions. Worth a trip if you're close by but I probably won't go back.

Neat little spot by the river with a variety of antiques of different periods. I found that things weren't up and running fully until almost 11 in the morning the day I visited but if you're into little treasures should be worth the wait. In the same spread is a nice tea house overlooking the river with tasty noodles and big portions. As always, haggling is a must. Recommended.

Went looking for this market with a friend who was visiting Chengdu. I was under the impression it would be a sprawling market full of some of the old goodies that you might see in similar markets in other Chinese cities. Not so. It was quite disappointing in that it was small and hard to find once leaving the metro station. It is mainly a place selling scroll paintings, stitched art and lots of Tibetan artifacts. There were only a couple of stalls that were selling old magazines and some coins that looked remotely antique....

Nice experience. Expensive, and very touristy. Still a nice visit. The cheaper shops are on the outside, inside they are selling the same for 50%-200% more.

This market is huge! I spent a couple of hours there and didn't manage to look around the whole place. As some of the other reviews have said, it's hard to tell if items are genuine antiques or not and a lot of the shops sell very similar things, but I'd say it's definitely worth a visit to have a look at some of the interesting shops. It's about a 15 minute walk from the Chengdu University of TCM and People's Hospital metro station on Line 2.

I have visited here a number of times and find it fascinating with lots of original Chinese art available (you need to go upstairs to view it). The prices are also reasonable but you do need to bargain quite hard. Not many 'foreign' tourists get here so language can be an issue but if you persist there are bargains to be had. Good place to get Tibetan beads and art also but be careful not sure how much is original and how much simply copies! A bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit
