The room in the restaurant we ate at here was styled on 1937 Shanghai. The food was so artistically beautiful that it was a pity to eat it, but we did. The foi gras was exquisite. This was my first visit to Happy Valley and I didn't even see the park, just this heavenly dining experience. We were catered to like royalty. Really delicious and exquisite food.

I bought a full year pass to happy valley when I was still lived in china. I usually go there every 2 weeks. It'a good place. I love the water park, the roller coasters, and some rides in happy time. I used to get lost while I goto the bird area. So yeah, I've went there for like 30 times and I had a lot of memories there.

Happy Valley is actually just a collection of rides. They have 3 decent sized roller coasters (one identical to the Lethal Weapon in Gold-Coast Australia) and a few good thrill rides.

Just be aware there's no decorations or effort put into presentation. And ride operators will make you wait a long time on quiet days because they won't start a ride unless it has a full load of passengers.

Please don't go to Happy Valley!!! I am from South-Africa but stay and work in Chengdu. Because i am a bigger guy i was not allowed on any of the roller coasters or water park slides. They have a weight limit of 85 kg on all of the rides and slides. I tried to talk to management but they refused to pay me back the 230 yuan. Also, there is no way for them tot weigh me so they just guessed. I am making a point of giving this park a bad name after my experience.

Ideal to look around and not play as the directions to ride were impossible. Not a place for tourist. Nobody spoke English or had proper information. Rides were fun but everything closed by 6pm except one section- no roller coasters there.

Well if you are looking for a theme park, Happy Valley is located in the northern part of Chengdu. If you really love amusement parks and miss the fun, give it a try. Just keep your expectations low. Its great to go as a group. While we were there during the spring, half of the rides or attractions were closed or down for repairs. The park isn't going to blow you away, but it does provide some fun and very entertaining rides and laughs. The water rides were enjoyable and made for a fun time with friends. Oh, you can also buy almost any "pet" you want around the park too. Give it a try. Take the Metro, line 2 to the bus stop. A taxi can be a little expensive. But its real easy to get a taxi back to the city and usually the best way back :)

So you're coming all the way from the US or Europe or some other place to come to Cheng Du.

Well there are a lot of different cultural places to go and see and wasting a day in happy valley doesn't seem wise.

This place is kind of a poor mans version of six flags.

But I mean if you are trying to entertain the kids and the pandas just won't do then I guess this might be your best option.

But if you are into experiencing the culture of Cheng Du I would advise you to skip this place because there are thousands of better amusement parks elsewhere in the world that you could go to that isn't a rip off of Disney.

Summary-

Go here if your with kids and they just can't sit still
Squatter bathrooms
Nothing really significant here that represents Cheng Du.

I went there with my boyfriend on Thursday. We came early (at 9-10 am) and there were only few people.
The rides were cool and some like the yellow one or the dinosaur-themed were not very pleasing one, because they were constructed so badly that it was shaking your whole body leaving you in some pain (not that bad, but you felt uncomfortable - as I could see some Chinese felt same).

BUT what was really... annoying.. is that even though there were only few people you still had to wait.
I was wondering why it takes so long, even though one rollercoaster can take up to 18 people and we still moved veeery slow.
Apparently before each ride you had to do some "quick exercises". And they didn't make you do it during the time others were riding the rollercoaster. They waited for them to leave the car, then talk a little and then make you do some exercise.

So I started the counting once and check how long it takes from when others leave the car until you can go to them - the fastest is 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

AND YOU HAD TO DO IT EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO RIDE A ROLLECOASTER.

Not only that. You usually are happy when there is only few people to have a ride. Not here. If there is 20 seats and there are only 16 people waiting they will make you wait until other people show up. Which sometimes can be quick, but sometimes you could ride twice on it during this time. And then you wait for a talk and exercise. Then you can go.

So sometimes you wish there is a queue.

So these were some disadvatages. Now some good sides:
There are two rides in which you can get wet, which is sometimes a blessing during such hot days - we didn't buy raincoats, only for shoes and a backpack.

In front of the park you can meet people selling raincoats for this ride, but you can easily buy it before the raid. Raincoat with towel is 10 yuan, and for pair of shoes is 5 yuan.

In the afternoon I saw they opened a swimming pool with fake waves and a small water slides. I think it's mostly for children, but adults also can go.

I think this Happy Valley in Chengdu had more rides than Shanghai has.
It was enjoyable.
They were accepting my (chinese) student ID and there are a restaurants inside (McDonald's), as well as vending machines with drinks.

I also had to mention that there is a height limit of 190 cm and weight limit.
My boyfriend is a bit bigger and didn't had any problems with stuff. There was one Chinese with height a little bit higher than 190 cm and they still let him go, so stuff is not THAT strict, altough I saw much bigger guy who had to leave the ride, because of his weight.

Overall it's a good park for those who likes thrilling rides and some fun.
