OK but hardly wow!

This is an obelisk in a park and I am unsure as to its cultural or historical significance. It is OK as obelisks go and the park is very average and a little run down in places. The only place in Chengdu where we saw a beggar!

Why is this an attraction?

It's just an obelisk in a park. The park is the attraction not this. Located in People's Park. Take a photo and move on

I don't know the exact history behind this monument but I certainly do believe that it was dedicated to the heroes who helped to build Chengdu! All over the monument you can find trees surrounded the monument as if it was in a forest. At any case, I really liked staying there and witnessing the good photographers taking photos of the monument.

"To take advantage of the popular tourist sight, dedicate a day to enjoy all that it offers"

I agree with comments from other visitors about the monument...........It's the monument as a part of the whole park that should be rated. In fact, my evaluation is for the entire park! Having said that, I feel the park is a must see! This is the first designated park in all of China to officially wear the name "park". Secondly, the park is filled with history, arts, music, dancing, and ancient teahouses. Yes, it's old. Yes, it is a location for Chengdu's retirees. But there are lakes with boats and many things for children. The entire park is a tropical paradise. As for me, it was a photo shoot paradise. Finally, as pointed out earlier, it champions and memorializes the sacrifice of the Chinese people who fought to make China and Chengdu a better place to live.

The park is what is interesting

The monument was a side attraction to the People's Park. Nice leisure walk in the park, and especially seeing all the poster's posted by parents trying to find a husband for their daughters. You need a Chinese guide to translate the posters. This is a park that the locals like to enjoy.

An obelisk in a park!
Nov 2014 • Solo
And not the most attractive or old obelisk at that. There are (quite deservedly) many monuments to record the final defeat of the Japanese invasion in China but this really is not worth a special trip to view. Situated in People's Park (not the best park either) you can take a picture if you are passing but don't make a special trip!

Look...I don't really know why Trip Advisor separates these monuments from the places they are in.

I was in Vienna one time looking for this place but then I found out it was just some building that because of a weird ranking system on tripadvisor ranked in the top 40 places to see.

Also, the ranking on Beijing with the forbidden palace I hate how trip advisor separates the forbidden palace into different parts just combine it into one and maybe separate the sections that you have to pay extra for.

Summary-

Inside People's park.
One photo Snap that's it.
There is a story behind this monument definitely read about it!
