We visited the brewery site during our visit to Chegdu by chance. Awesome museum and so interesting. They had an English speaking guide for us in the afternoon who was incredibly funny and knowledgeable. A real credit to the museum. The traditional process they went through to make the alcohol is really interesting. The pits are were amazing to see. Cannot recommend this more highly.

The workshop is located next to a prominent high school and some residential building. The roads are narrow and the building looks grey and drab. As a result, we have low expectations before we enter the workshop. But to our pleasant surprise, this area is an eye opener. The building is well maintained and have a few interesting highlights:
Pros
1. The artefacts are interesting and the dim lighting makes one feel like going on an exploration. They also have a museum where they showcase ancient tools.
2. The main highlight is visiting the actual site where wine is made. The area is moist, damp and cooling, despite having no fans or aircon. It is an amazing architecture by the ancient Chinese as it is very hot outside the building. At the actual site, you can see many old tools and there are videos to show how wine is made (albeit very little English).
3. There is a wine testing area. They will serve you 20% and 60% alcohol wine. It is a good experience as we don't get the taste such high alcohol level wine in our country. You can buy the wine but they really cost a bomb.
4. The area is not crowded. In fact it felt deserted during weekdays. I suspect its due to the lack of publicity and location.
Cons:
1. There are very little English descriptors in the building. It is common to find detailed Chinese panels with just a paragraph of English words (with sometimes incorrect English). Hence, I will strongly recommend paying more for a in-house guide. Otherwise you may end up walking past many interesting places without knowing the story behind them. For Chinese speakers, I will also recommend a guide because the guide will tell you stories not found in the descriptors. I thought it was a smart move by them to make money.
2. There are mosquitos in the workshop site during summer. Thankfully, they offer insect repellent to spray.
In conclusion, I will recommend this site as it is different from many historical sites in China. It is not crowded and the artefacts are interesting and well maintained. The only important thing is to pay a bit more for a guided tour. It will definitely be worth the money for a complete experience due to the lack of useful descriptors.

Really something special. Because the production process is running together with the museum, fermentation, Destillation... And because the site as well as the exhibits are presented with great care to all the details. 50 RMB + 100 for an English speaking guide but definitely worth it, only with a guide you are allowed to the production and you get a lot of information and all questions answered
