If you want to see Panda, do not go to the zoo. There is only one. You have to go to the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center. And go in the morning when they are eating between 8-10, otherwise they are sleeping.

Not too much impressed with the way animals are held and treated there. There are many interesting animals to see though...

An OK zoo with a lot of different animals, ex monkeys, tigers, reptiles, lions, birds, snakes and pandas. The cages were however too small, and many animals seems a bit under stimulated. Very low ticket price (18 yuan) and also a playground and a small amusment park (extra cost for roller coaster etc). As normal in China, the restrooms are terrible. The restraurants here was not the best either. Still we might come back next time, because my son (3 yo) liked it :)

This was a very sad experience - the enclosures were all very small and completely concrete. People were throwing food over the barriers at the animals. While the entrance fee was extremely cheap, it doesn’t feel like there has been any investment in the animals, and would not recommend visiting.

Went here after the panda base as it was very cheap (20rmb), there's a reason it's so cheap and that reason is.....that it's awful. It's essentially a prison for animals. It has the feeling of an old abandoned zoo and someone forgot to take the animals. The encloses are terribly maintained and hardly enough food. The animals do not look cared for with many exhibiting signs of mistreatment. I have never seen animals look less happy. I wouldn't go back if someone paid me!

We went there with friends, and left in 20 minutes. It old park with old animals who look so sad we wanted to cry. It was crowded and we felt like one of animals there. It is dirty and definitely not worth anything to go there.

Not that I should be surprised, China has never hit me as a country and people caring for animals' welfare, but there are very good reviews out there about the zoo. I couldn't agree less. Save yourself the pain!! It was cold, the day I visited. Animals were either cold and huddling around heating fans, or seemed mentally unstable. The panda was only moving backwards and after every round tried to go inside a concrete house. But the door was closed. He kept walking backwards and doing the same thing again and again... similarly the elephant. A SINGLE elephant kept walking a few meters forward, hit a black steel door with his trunk then turned back the same few meters only to repeat the exact same thing again and again and again.... The rhino was glued to the steel door, probably hoping someone would open and let it inside. It never moved. It was deplorable!!! The only trees the monkeys ever see are painted on their concrete enclosure walls. Leopards and most other big wild cats have to make do with concrete enclosures the size of a Western bathroom rotating in circles. People banging the glass and screaming at the top of their voices. Save yourself the pain!!!!!

We went there after visiting the Panda Center.
The zoo is totally a different thing. Concrete, gray and overcrowded everywhere,
the animals are cramped and housed in inadeguate places, like deers on concrete-floor areas (no grass! they try to lay down on cracks in the floor)...
Bears who fight each other for space and try to climb out...
Elephant chained and confined in a narrow space...
Giraffes enclosed indoor...
Alligators in a space barely bigger than them...
And i could go on.
We rushed out after seeing most of it.
It's a pityful sight...
these things should not happen, there should be standards for keeping animals in zoos and those standards should be followed everywhere, also in China.

Went to the zoo. Cost 20RMB for an adult and 10RMB for a child. On first entering I initially found the zoo to be pleasant as the gardens were well maintained. However, once I saw the woefully small cages I felt rather glum for the poor animals imprisoned there. Instead of there being grass and vegetation, most animals had concrete floors. Water for the aquatic animals were greenish brown. Only the bird aviary had decent space. On the plus side there were some animals I had never seen before, including White Tigers and Takins. There is a huge gap in conditions between the zoo and the Panda Breeding Centre.

I would have given this zoo more if it wasn't for the fact that there were stalls selling live turtles and fish in balls like toys. Surely a zoo should be trying to educate people about conservation not selling animals as play things. Some of the cages were small and there was too little grass and too much concrete!
