I cannot thank my tour guide Helen for the 4 incredible days visiting all 4 Panda sites in Sichuan Province. Helen and Mr. Zen, our driver, met me at midnight at the Chengdu airport, drove me to a wonderful hotel in Chengdu, the Buddha Zen Hotel which is where I started and ended my trip. Early the next morning we drove to the Duiangyan Panda Base to be a Panda Keeper. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Zen’s wife, who is also a driver for China Highlights, and her guest. Helen made that day a great experience being a panda keeper and she photographed the entire event. Helen is incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. From there we drove over to the Wolong Panda Base where I stayed in a hotel that is in the Base. I was able to visit the base after hours when everyone had left for the day. In the early evening the panda have access to both their enclosures and their yards. The only sound I could hear was panda’s munching on bamboo. The next day, at Wolong, I participated in the Baby Nanny tour where I feed panda cubs (about 18 months old) milk in a bowl and bamboo shoots and again was a panda keeper. This base is the quietest of the bases I visited since it is adjacent to the mountains where there are wild pandas. The film on the work that this base and a secondary base, higher in the mountains, that the public cannot visit is why the pandas have moved from the endangered list. To cap off that day it snowed. That evening we traveled to Yaan. Mr. Zen was an incredible driver very cautious, polite and always had oranges and water during the trip. The travel times between bases was anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. On the third day I was again a Panda keeper at the Bifengxia Giant Panda Base. I had shared with Helen that I had followed a panda, Bei Bei, on the Washington DC panda cam since he was born and knew he had been moved to that base this past November. When we got there she was able to have me assigned to be Bei Bei’s keeper for the day. To watch this panda grow from an infant to a 4 year old panda and finally be that close to feed him was incredible. I envy all of the professional panda keepers that daily get to interact with these goofy, playful, never ending eating or sleeping animals each day. What a way to spend a career. We then headed back to Chengdu where on the final day we spent at the Chengdu Panda Breeding Center. Since it was the Monday, before the Chinese New Year, the Center was filled with happy families laughing and enjoying the antics of the pandas. Helen was able to maneuver the Center, even with the crowds, so that we were always at the right location at the right time to see cubs playing with each other and panda feedings. My deepest thanks to China Highlights and Claire for customizing my tour. The wonderful panda keepers at all of the bases for their patience and guidance. To Mr. Zen for getting us between all those bases safely and being a kind, courteous and excellent driver. And especially too Helen, an unbelievable tour guide, who made the trip what it was – Incredible!

Cecilia and our driver took great care of us from the very beginning. They were at our hotel promptly at 7:20 and set us off on a great adventure! Cecilia has impeccable English and gave us a little background on our day and about the Pandas. She is extremely knowledgeable! We arrived and she made sure we got the most out of the experience. The work portion was not hard and was actually quite fun. We loved getting close up when feeding the Panda 🐼. The whole process and day was extremely organized and we felt Cecilia took really good care of us. Our 12 year old loved the experience and I would definitely recommend booking Cecilia. We used ChinaHighlights.com and even the booking process was easy. Perfect day!!!

My wife and I always wanted to visit Pandas in China, and quite possibly hold a Panda cub, which we found out wasn't allowed anymore. No worries. Our guide for the day was Snow, who was the perfect host, making us feel right at home at the Panda Conservation and Research Center. She put us to work! With Snow's direction, I removed all the Panda poop and swept away the fallen leaves, while my wife removed the remaining bamboo so they can put fresh bamboo later that day. As volunteers, we really got an understanding on how the Panda keepers maintain a clean environment for their Pandas. They do this twice a day! We got to feed the Pandas carrots, and then we fed ourselves with a delicious buffet lunch at the employee lunch room (visitors don't get to do that!). Snow answered all our questions throughout the day and had a great attitude, always allowing us to take everything at our own pace but still kept us within the day's schedule. We got our certificates, a wonderful memory, and made a new friend called Snow.

I just returned from a day at the research base with my guide, Snow. I loved spending time with these stunning, sweet, and intelligent animals. I had a perfect experience with Snow and would readily book with her again. She was so kind, so patient, and answered every panda question I had :) Respect to the Chinese government and all the individuals who’ve worked tirelessly to save these special animals. It’s a privilege to see for myself. Lunch was authentic chinese and very tasty. Bring your own water, TP, hand sanitizer and shoes with with good treads that you don’t care about.

booked a trip with 12 total in group thru China Highlights. Seeing the Pandas was a great experience and gives hope for their future. Our guide was Cecilia who spoke excellent english, was very educational, and then when we visited a Buddhist temple was able to explain the Buddhist beliefs and philosophy. she was excellent and if you have a choice, ask for her as the local guide. two night ago at home in the USA, the TV show 60 minutes aired a segment on the Giant Pandas and the information she had given us was spot on for what she had discussed! Great couple of days in Chengdu!
