we had time left in datong and we visited this temple, its nice to see but no must to visit, partly new reconstructed, part dusty and old nice for an hour

It worth to pay a viist particularrly someone who love Chinese arcuitecture! I recommend to hire a guide for brief introduction. It will highlight the visit.

You can climb up one of the buildings to see the slums on one side, and the renewed old city on the other side. It's a nice place to see once you are in Datong.

A large area in reconstructed old town , very beautiful and interesting.take most of your short visit to see wall painting and wood carving, if you had enough time try to wonder in reconstructed old town nearby.
