One ☝️ of monument for old city and history. Small island 🌴 with lighthouse. It was closed when we wanted to walk around. Neighbouring with naval museum and connected with main land with road. Connected to seaside path from downtown, eventually take the bus 🚌

Small Qingdao Island and the 1 mile walk over to the public beaches is the "E" ticket of Qingdao. The views are equal to Laguna Beach in Southern California. Frankly, for about an hour, I forgot that I was in China. The area is clean, manicured and with natural beauty that rivals anything in China.

Small island attached to the mainland by a causeway. To walk over the causeway there is a small fee of ¥10 per person.

The island as its name implies is pretty small and you can circumnavigate it in 10 minutes. There is a lighthouse on top of the hill in the centre of the island; don't think you can go in. A statue of a lady with a lyre is the main landmark.

Not much to do here but relax and take in the views of the Yellow Sea, the Naval Museum, Zhan Qiao and the city skyline across the water.

Can be combined with a visit to the Naval Museum, Luxin Park, Little Fish Hill and the 1st Bathing Beach.

So, I wanted to walk to the island because I am alone and don't have access to a vehicle. I walked for a long distance to get to the entrance to be turned away. They stated no walking to the island.

I woke up early in the morning and I walked from my hotel near Huiquan Park to this attraction. It is free admission if you visit the attraction before 8 am. After that hour, there is a charge of RMB10.

The way the mainland is connected to the Green Islet reminded me of my Sentosa island in Singapore. But this islet is even smaller than Sentosa. As it is a park, people came here early in the morning for a stroll but it is not crowded and the air is fresh and the atmosphere tranquil and serene.

I took my leisure time to walk around the rocky beach near to the lighthouse. From the beach, I could view the landscape of the skyscrapers on the other side of the sea where the Zhanqiao Pier is located. That beautiful morning, the crimson rays of the morning sun cast her light on the beach and I could see the clear coastline with one or two visitors standing at the rocks with their fishing lines. As I glanced back from the rocky beach, I could see the white marble lighthouse tower loomed at the background.

The marble lighthouse on this green islet reminded me of the national humiliation inflicted on the Chinese people when German imperialists coerced the dying and weak Ching Dynasty to lease out Qingdao to Germany in 1898 and the Germans quickly constructed this lighthouse in 1900 for their navigation purpose.

When the Japanese invaded Qingdao in 1940s, a reinforced concrete beam sea wall was constructed to connect this islet with the mainland. So, both the reinforced beam sea wall and the navigation lighthouse were `gifts' contributed by the imperialists and preserved to these days to `redeem their sins'.

The islet is also named the Lyre Island as it shaped like a lyre and a sculpture of a girl playing a lyre (Guqin) was constructed at the center of the park looking towards the Yellow Sea. The magnificent statue blended well with the picturesque coastline and the beautiful seaside scenery.

I stood at the waterside pavilion and listened to the soothing rhyme created by the sea waves splashing against the beach rocks. It was mesmerizingly beautiful and at that little moment, I felt a sensation of warmth and happiness enveloped me like the waves of tsunami.

I recommended this visit as part of a solo morning walk to the Lu Xun Park, Bathing Beaches, the Signal Hill, the Little Fish Hill Park and the Navy Museum. It is a marvelous exploration discovery of the beautiful gems at this part of Qingdao. I felt so close to nature and felt her gentle touch as the cool sea breeze caressed my face when I was all alone on this green islet.

We first went to the Navy museum. Once we left this museum we walked to Xiao Qingdao. Right now (July 2013) you need to walk back to the main street, turn right and right again to find your way to the dam connecting mainland with Xiao Qingdao.

The door/gate connecting the navy museum directly with the dam was closed.

The small island itself is, well, small. In fact it is so small that a walk around it maybe takes you 10 minutes. The lighthouse is still in operation and therefore can't be visited. The coffee shop is closed. And to my eyes it doesn't look like its going to be re-opened soon.

Don't get me wrong here. The views on the city and the sea are indeed very nice. There is a booth where you can buy a ride on a boat. The entrance fee to the island of 10 RMB is just fine.

But, just going there only for the island is probably not worth it. Combine it with a visit to the navy museum and it's a nice addition to your day.

I really enjoyed walking around this little island, enjoying the quietness (not many people there) and with the waves splashing onto the rocks and getting the smell of the ocean. I am not sure if there are always "swells" or waves, though. I was disappointed not to enter the torpedo depot under the island. Memorable visit.

Calm, relaxing, quiet and serene sum this place up. It is small. The entrance is easy enough to find. The long walk past the naval museum backgate is interesting. The lighthouse reminded me greatly of being in the UK. There are some interesting historical features including an old missile silo and tracks, I think they may have been added by the Chinese fleeing an invasion or by the Japanese occupiers. Signage is sparse. It is a great place to lose yourself in thoughts.

For a really small entrance fee you can pass a long pier and walk around a small island in front of Qingdao with a lighthouse. The park is nicely decorated, you will see pretty flowers and trees as well as some nice pieces of art (a statue with a lyra, that is really enchanting) During summer you can enjoy cold beverages and lie around in the sun. I highly recommend this island, the small fee is absolutely worth it and you can walk to Lu Xun Park from there. (Which is also really nice ^^)

This is a great place to spent an hour if you want to catch some ocean views. You can see the naval ships (from Navy Museum) across the bay, and of the main Qingdao area with ZhanQiao at the foreground, while the other side offers you ocean views with ships passing by. There is an old lighthouse but not open to the public. Good to walk around park as it is generally nice and clean. It is also near the Underwater World.
