More museum than aquarium.
Jun 2021 • Family
When you start your tour you are given a few floors worth of copies of sea-life. Don’t despair, it give some background and content (like a museum) but if you keep going you will get to a well stocked aquarium. It is not very big and doesn’t have a huge selection, but is quite interesting. It is relatively expense compared to other attractions.

Trip to underwater world
Aug 2019 • Friends
I was on a school trip and it was nodt a pleasant trip. We wanted to go to Polar Ocean World but was told by the cab drivers that it was too far and traffic was bad and recommended us to the Underwater world. The cab driver said it was newer and better. We were driven to a road side set up where we purchased our tickets and then we waited to board a public like bus. It was crowded and we stood squashed like sardines. Arriving there, we had to walk following like a tour guide to the gate where we got our tickets. Long queue to go in and inside, we could not see much because there were just too many people. Don't travel and visit during the Chinese school holidays. You will be pushed and the exhibits consist of more things that were dead than alive. There were a lot to be seen but they were not alive! It was a disappointment for us.

Overcrowded, badly maintained, tortured animals
Aug 2019 • Family
I have visited aquariums in Osaka, Atlanta, Lisbon, Munich and this one certainly stands out as an appalling example of sea life display.

Yes, the place was overcrowded with pushy groups of people. Yes, this place is not stroller friendly. Yes, the displays frequently lack non-Chinese descriptions. Yes, you are constantly passing gift shops and the liked, Yes, the Place is not well maintained. Yes, you first have to pass a series of badly made sea life replicas. However, all that would be tolerable if it weren’t for the horrific circumstances under which the animals are kept here. Yes, the ticket price are not exactly cheap. The tanks are way too small and/or stuffed with too many animals. The probably worst example are the turtles.

Stay away unless you want to support cruelty against animals. Go to a place where some effort is put into animal welfare.

A Spontaneous Adventure

Reading the reviews of 'Underwater World Qingdao', We felt disappointed because it was a place we really looked forward to visiting... With some thought and more research I suggested we should just go visit.

So we did, and we had little negative reviews of the trip.. You can spend between 3 and 4 hours here.

It is fun for people of all ages, we took hundreds of photos and shared good laughs here.

The negatives of our visit would be- This ones for the foreigners.. The other guests visiting will take many photos of you without permission so just ignore it and enjoy your visit.

The taxidermy at the entrance is somewhat alittle disappointing none the less its interesting to see, the big one for all of us were the big turtles in the little housing (not to sure the reasoning behind this).

The Positives serpass the negatives...
*The display of different types of sea plants and coral from around the world.
*The mermaid show.
*The friendliness of the staff (which a good amount speak english).
*The feeding of the fishes with baby bottles.
*You don't need cash you can use your cell phone.
*The 'Tunnel' (big plus).
*The finger cleaning fish (Good laughs).
*The Jellyfish display.
*Be sure to check the 'hidden spots'
*The fishes like to be photographed too!
and the list can go on...

Only thing is the places are quite far spread so make enough time to walk down the road literally. to get to the next building.

This is really a place worth visiting!

A little disappointed
Jun 2018 • Couples
Coming from Seattle, and having visited many aquariums, we were a little disappointed. Not a lot of live tanks, and many paper mache displays make up most of your experience. To it's credit, however, there was great information in multiple languages on what you were seeing. Save your money and visit the many other spenders of Qingdao.

So so
Aug 2018 • Family
We went there with 2 toddlers in the strollers, first there’s subway a bit far away from it, then when you get there and get the tickets, you are getting in. There’s no easy access for strollers, many stairs inside the place, we had to lift strollers and kids, also the stuff is not helpful when they see you struggling with the strollers. The fish tanks are small, so you have to push through the crowd to be able to see the fish, or sharks. The fish tunnel is okay, toddlers were exited. Also, they are no food available in the aquarium, only KFC with one meal choice, and few stands with water and cookies but take cash! You can not pay via card, WeChat or Alipay, be prepared to take food at least for kids with you. When you leave the place, there’s a beach side right next to it, so you can grab swim wear beforehand to finish your day.

Great Location and plenty to see to keep kids occupied
Mar 2018 • Family
Worthwhile, especially if your kids are Octonaut fans. All sorts of specimen jars as you go in, then some dodgy taxidermy and a huge model sperm whale and then diwn into the underwater world bit with big rays and a conveyor belt walkway. We went in the afternoon and it was closing time by the time we got to the freshwater area so didn't have time to get to the old aquarium that is also included in the entry ticket price. I wouldn't adbise making an effort to get to the 'show' - just a diver swimmimg with the dish with a pointless light display on the glass od th tank - kids weren't interested and it was a pity to have rushed past some interesting exhibits to get there on time.

Not worth the visit!
Jan 2018 • Family
We went here with friends and our child, and we would never ever go back again. There were just as many stuffed animals as real ones, and those that were stuffed were stuffed very poorly. There was minimal upkeep of the area, and the lighting was atrocious.

Please don't come here expecting much because you will walk away dissatisfied.

What a rather nice surprise we had when we visited this gem in the sea of other Chinese attractions. While it was overpriced (by Western standards) we did see a number of species which I have not seen before (I come from a coastal town). It is a definite must-see for those traveling with families as there is one area where one can feed a tank full of koy and a conveyor belt which brings you along the bottom of the main tank.

Be warned that not all of the exhibits have English on the signs, only the Latin scientific names can start to be read...
