Xinghai Square was a cool area and it seems like the locals are always investing to make it better. There is an hourly music and fountain show going from Western music to a Chinese collection. From my understanding the last lights show is 8:00 pm. The seaside views offer a great view of the ocean and the Xinghai Bridge. There are also lots of things to do around the square like some amusement park rides, flying a kite, enjoying the many walking paths, museums, a couple of malls and even a skatepark.

We would say evening is best to get the full experience and to try a restaurant around the square. Closest metro station is Xinghai Square.

We went to the square during the Spring Festival.By my father's invitations and luckily, I had a amazing expereience in the Dalian city. The view was definitely awesome. There was a lot of things to do. We really did enjoyed the afternoon. To my surprise, we saw the seagulls beyond the beach, which was a very beatiful scene. We join in the crowds of people and we took a lots of photos. The place is absolutely a must-going on your travel list.
As for supper,we had excellent Dalian seafood. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food was georgeous. The seafood dumplings were really delicious which is beyond my expectation. But I think it might be a little expensive for 48 dollars (each prson)for a meal even though the dishes were served in high quality. But all in all, we had a great day though.I'd like to give a positive rating to the one of the greatest square in China.

if you come to dalian, you should visit there-Xinghai Square.Every native here is proud of it-the biggest square in Asia.
Its location was a garbage dump before. When Mr Bo became the chairman of Dalian,he made this square for travelling. Then it becomes one of the famous spot in dalian. And because of its convenient location,it become the first travelling destination for the tourists. There is a big amusement park in it.And still there are many artistic copper sculpture and cast sculpture with the sporting gesture-which are very vivid and awesome.Near the sea there is a book shaped rock which may means journey makes you clear, lol.
When you go there at night, there still have many people who are jogging or walking there.you could go to play in the amusement park-which is very excited, you could yell out.If you are lucky, you could a heart-shaping candles which is made by the young man who is going to ask proposal to his girlfriend, definitely it's very romantic and still you are a alien witness, lol, dont forget to take pics.At night some natives are swimming there and the others are fishing, you could see people are doing different things there-btw,it's very safe in dalian, and they are very kind-hearted.
Dalian international bear festival is held in xinghai squre, the time is usually at the end of july.so you enjoy beer, you could choose that time to visit dalian.Beside the square there are two exhibitions where you could by the souvenirs for you family and friends there, the goods are in the low price.
Since China is developing very fast, people quality is high there.so if you go to dalian, you could find a native who could speak english as your native guide, you could save a lot and also you could decide where you wanna go,it's the best choice.

This is the largest square in China and the third largest in the world. You get excellent 360 degree views and there is even an amusement park here. It was -2 Celsius and sunny when we visited. The whole area seemed very well maintained.

If you get a chance, hopefully you will see the water show. Think Bellagio Hotel in Vegas. There is a neat fountain show. Also, in the square there is a HUGE sculpture. Kids ride plastic sleds down it. It's adorable to watch. Very common place for people to go and hang out. Right on the water. Very safe!

Not very much shade to hide under, but mostly clean. Many places to buy snacks, drinks, food. Good place to hang out with friends for bbq!
Lots of overpriced souvenirs for sale everywhere.

I was able to visit the Square at night. It was an awesome view of the city, and the Square (Circle) gives a wonderful view of all the nightlife in Dalian. I would recommend a visit to this attraction if you are in the area. I took a cab, and found it to be a really nice area for even families to visit. There is a lot to do, and a lot of people to see. It was something I put on my list.

Great for taking photos. Should have gone there at night.
The high buildings surrounding the park made this place very unique. There is a Fun Fair nearby for children. The seaside is also very near.

If you're in Dalian for only one day, this has to be on your list. It's a very very big square, and is clearly visible from the airplane right before landing, try sitting on a left window seat if you come from Beijing. It's approximately 1,5 km (or a mile) long and 500m wide, and it's said that it's the biggest square in Asia. You can have a nice walk along the oval streets, and visit the book-wings like monument at the sea, which was placed to commemorate the 100th birthday of the city. Around the park are the big hotels and convention centers, and in summer the whole park is the place for the beer festival, a shameless copy of the Munchen Oktoberfesten.
The park is also sided by a fake castle in the mountains. It looks nice from afar, but get up close and you'll notice they hardly tried to hide the fakeness. If you're a fan of seashells (maybe your girlfiend sells seashells by the seashore?) head to the castle and buy a cheap entrance ticket to visit the beautiful exposition on seashells.
On the other side of the park are some beaches, with typical beach-attractions and enough drink and foodstands to feed a small African country.
On the eastside is a place with a musical fountain, but it was out of service when I was there.
