This beautiful mall is a great marriage of East and West with a Walmart, Starbucks, KFC, and Pizza Hut with several floors of Chinese restaurants and stores plus a movie theatre. It's close to the commuter train station and some other great malls (MyKall, iMall, New Market) as well as a street closed to traffic but filled with food vendors and clothing vendors and lined with more of the same. The first floor foyer always features big sales and the top floor has a fantastic food court. The square in front of An Sheng is a big, open space often filled with people at an open air stage with a big screen or other attractions for special occassions.

AnSheng Shopping Mall is celebrating its 15th anniversary with fashion shows, banners, specials, and renovations that make it look young again. The lower level has been completely renovated, except for Walmart, and the outdoor area by the Walmart entrance has been cleaned up. The street food vendors relocated a block south, on Xaio Chi Street, outside the iMall, and it's AnSheng's loss. The mall's movie theatre is not keeping up with the new theatres in the Imax at Wanda Plaza, not far away, but the old style box seat theatres are still popular. The Gourmet Food Court on the fifth floor is great. The mall has a dozen restaurants on the top five floors and another dozen downstairs. Happy 15th birthday, AnSheng!

AnSheng, on Jinma Lu, the main street of Kaifaqu, is the grande dame of shopping centres in the new development zone of Dalian but a new rival called Wanda popped up, on the other side of Kaifaqu Station. Which one rules Kaifaqu? They are both fantastic and they are connected by a two dollar or ten yuan taxi ride, about ten minutes. AnSheng is right downtown and Wanda is over by Big Monk Mountain. Wanda has an Imax but AnSheng has smaller theatres with box seats (seats for two with wooden boxes built around them, for privacy). AnSheng has dozens of great restaurants and a fantastic food court but Wanda has one hundred wonderful restaurants. AnSheng has more clothing stores but Wanda has a great big book store. Who wins? Kaifaqu is lucky to have the two!

With 50 restaurants, AnSheng should be called a restaurant mall, rather than a shopping mall. There are two dozen restaurants above ground and another two dozen down below, around Wallmart, and there are no bad eateries in the bunch. The top floor has a Gourmet Park, close to the cineplex and an arcade, as well as half a dozen very good restaurants, including Looking For Crabs, which serves more than crabs. Starbucks is on the first floor, Honeymoon Dessert is on the second floor, and on and on it goes. The Barbecue place on the fifth floor is a favourite and the dragon themed place next door is right up there.

The An Sheng mall mostly houses upmarket shops with prices to match, but they are nice to look at. The exception is the Walmart which is best entered down an outside elevator which is separate from the pedestrian subway stairs and elevators outside the mall main entrance. Walmart prices are very good.
Inside the mall, I particularly recommend the spicy restaurant near the top of the escalator on Floor 5 - at the opposite end from the crab restaurant. Its logo is a predominantly red square with a long green chilli on it. The menu has pictures each with an indication of the dishes spiciness. Some are not spicy at all such as the sweet pork. The prices are quite reasonable (eg 106 RMB for a 3-dish meal for two), the food is good and the service is also very good and a little English is spoken.

AXA is the An Sheng Shopping Mall, the biggest, newest, fanciest mall in Kaifaqu, Dalian, located on the Jinma Lu, the main street, across from Mykal and kitty-korner to the iMall. It has a Starbucks, KFC, Pizza Hut, on the first floor, a Walmart downstairs, and a great food court alongside other excellent restaurants and a movie theatre on the top floor.
