It is my favourite place to go in Dalian area. There are two most common ways to get to the top. One is to take stairs to the temple, second is to take a road from the village few hundred metres further up the road Both cost 10yuan for car park and both cost 20yuan at the gate. However, the stairs close after 6pm while the road becomes free of charge in the night. You cannot drive to the top without permission. The views from top are amazing and you can see both Bohai Sea and Yellow sea. It takes about 1h45min to get to the top. The views especially during night are amazing.

You can come here by light train no 3 from Dalian Railway Station.....get down at development zone. From there you need to hire a cab(including return) to reach at DaHeiShan.....best time to visit is Jun-Aug....because there are lot of Cherry garden nearby....entry to cherry garden 20-30 RMB including eating as much as you can...😋...there are also many temples on the mountain.....

The biggest mountain in the area is called Monk Mountain or Big Monk Mountain as well as Black Mountain, Big Black Mountain, or Grand Black Mountain. There are great views of this impressive mountain from the train to KaiFaQu Station. The mountain is a fifteen minute drive from there. It's called Monk Mountain as there are several Taoist and Buddhist temples on the mountain. The temples are ancient but still functioning. One is built around a waterfall. Stone stairways lead to these historic places and they say the walk or climb is spiritually cleansing. It's not promoted as a major tourist attraction but the people who live here know it well.

The area is amazing, quite the view. Bus takes you to the wrong side, wrong end so be sure that you get a taxi or have a Tourist Hotel give you the directions.

The temples along the walk were lovely; we did the walk relatively early in the morning, so the walk and temples were not overrun with people. A challenging walk (for me, anyway!) of 1300 stone steps, with a further 500 steps or so to the highest peak. On this particular day we did not ascend to the highest peak; it was a hazy morning and the views over Kaifaqu, etc. were not the best. On a clear day I would imagine it's spectacular to see, and well worth the walk. You have the option of walking the whole way, or you can take a taxi to bypass the first 1300 steps - of course, you miss the temple-exploring experience if you do it that way!

My friends and I camp there and had fun. Although the wind was very strong, the sunrise and the view were AMAZING!

Grand Black Mountain of Dalian, also known as Daheshan, has dozens of trails with thousands of stone steps leading up to Taoist and Buddhist temples, old and new. I've visited this mountain area two dozen times, in all seasons, and I've taken thousands of photos because it is ridiculously beautiful. The best trail links several temples with a stone fortress on the edge of a cliff and then continues to the summit, where there is a lookout area close to the top with a 360 degree view of the beautiful black mountains and the Kaifaqu part of Dalian. This place should be world-famous!

Most people go to the first park on Big Monk Mountain, or Daheishan, or Grand Monk Mountain, walk up thousands of stone stairs, see several temples, and it's fantastic. If you take the same road for about fifteen minutes you get to a couple of other temple compounds that are magnificent and a short-cut to the top of the mountain. If you go around the mountain on the same road, you get to the top of another temple compound so you don't have to walk up 2,000 stairs to see what looks like a small cave but opens up to a high ceiling with huge Buddhist and Taoist sculptures. You can also go to the 4th temple complex by a shorter route and walk up those stairs, to see more. All four sites on this mountain are magnificent. All Daheishen needs now is a waterfall on the top so more people take notice of this amazing place.

Took a cab from Shangrila-la hotel intending to go to light rail station to get off to the nearest station to black mountain. But on negotiation with the cab driver, the fare was Rmb 100 to the entrance at the foot of the mountain. To me the fare was reasonable considering the time saved.

Entrance was Rmb 20 per person. Don't be fooled by the sight of the height of mountain from your perspective . It will take you more time and energy than you first thought. There is proper pavement and steps to guide you as you ascend. The stone steps are marked every hundred steps starting from 100. This will tell you how far you are away from the summit. On 1,300 steps one will reached a temple. There are toilets at a corner of the temple and I think that is the only toilet along this trial. Avoid using this toilet if you can as I don't think it had ever been washed!

Back to the trail, the temple is not the summit. There is still some paved road until you reached another set of between 500 to 600 stone steps ( every steep!) Exact number I can't remember. Someone mentioned to me it was another 590 steps. All in all it took me slightly more than an hour for the climb to the summit from the foot of the mountain.

On the way up, the views were very scenic although there was light haze that day. For those who do not exercise regularly, conditioning legs muscle few days before the climb is recommended. Overall , it is worth the effort.
