Fast, Clean and cheap
Jul 2019
The tube, is a good and fast mode of transport around Dalian, Traffic can be hellish!! best to buy a travel pass, the Tube in China is very clean and safe, maps are in Chinese and English, you have to put your bags through an X-ray airport thing, which can slow you down, but nothing major. We should have that system in the UK!

A convenient way to travel in Dalian -
Nov 2018
There are only two Metro lines in Dalian, but for certain city travel this is the most convenient way to avoid traffic busy roads especially during rush hours.

Most convenient option for transport
Sep 2018 • Business
New and clean with good connection and price this is the best option for transfer in Dalian. Ticket costs from 2 to 9 RMB. Metro has 4 active lines - Line 1 and 2, covering most of the ticket attractions, connected at Xi'an road station. Line 3 going from Dalian railway station to Jinshitan scenic area (Golden pebble beach), and Line 12, connected with Line 1 at Hekou station going south to Lushun.
You can easily get to all important places for your travel, like Dalian Railway station (Line 2&3), Dalian North Railway station (Dalianbei, Line 1) and Dalian International Airport (Line 2). Most of the Dalian attractions are also connected by metro lines.

Ticket vending machines has option to switch to English - you need to know your destination station and line to select your ticket - just click on the station and you get the price - machine accepts 1RMB coins and 5 - 10 RMB Banknotes.

Train & Platforms are clean, most (all I visited) has relatively clean eastern type of toilets.

Great way to get from Dalian North Train Station
Aug 2018 • Solo
I took the Number 1 line from Dalian North Train Station to Xinghai Square Station, which was the closest station (around 4 or 5 km) to my hotel and it only cost me 4 RMB. The subway is clean and quite modern - better than anything I've seen in the US and rivaling the subways in Beijing. Consider using the subway to get to and from various sites.

Subway reaches Dalian North train station
Jul 2018 • Couples
Contrary to outdated reviews we'd read, it is possible to take the subway from Dalian North train station into town. Much cheaper than taking a taxi, and might even be faster. Line 1 stops at Dalian North, and it connects with Line 2 at Xi'an Road.

The Dalian subway seems very new and clean, and it blasts announcements in Mandarin, English, Japanese, Korean, and (I believe) Russian.

Impressive and convenient form of transport
Jun 2018 • Solo
On arrival at Dalian North Station by high speed rail, a kind lady advised us to take the metro to our hotel in Xinghai (RMB 4) to avoid rush hour jam. It is easy to buy the tickets as there are both English and Mandarin version. Tickets cost from RMB 2 to RMB 4 depending on the distance. It is such a convenient and reasonable way to get around Dalian as there are only two lines. One famous interchange is Xian Road which has many shopping centres. I also went to Hua Nan Square stop on line 1 to visit Yihecheng shopping Mall. It has the only E-land shop there. I especially love the food at the seafood place at the Food village on the 6th floor. I could eat fresh oysters and sashimi as well as cooked cuttle fish, fish porridge, fried rice and pan fried salmon, etc. There are also disposable containers for me to take away my food. Recently there is a promotion of RMB 80 voucher for every RMB 800 spent. I bought RMB 151 at the seafood place and could redeem my voucher and hence just paid RMB 71 for my food. The cashier was so kind to help me chalk up my purchase to RMB 150 (minimum needed to redeem voucher). I like the food so much that I had dinner there on two nights. The service of the salesgirl at E-land is also very impressive. I met many kind and helpful people in Dalian and it enables me to have a good time in Dalian.

Not as reliable as Beijing but still a great form of transports.
May 2016 • Solo
Dalian metro is NOT nearly as big as those in the metropolitan cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, or Shenyang, however, it's still a good form of transportation when you have to get to a place that's far. THey charge NOT by distance yet, but it will be charged based on distance just like in Beijing or Shanghai. It's 3 yuan now a ride, it can get quite packed from time to time, therefore, you have to be careful.
