A small good museum
Dec 2016 • Solo
This museum is small. It doesn't take so long to see everything. Almost everything has an English translation. Quiet and warm.

A museum covering many sectors of Chinese art through the centuries
Oct 2016 • Solo
This is a modern Museum and Exhibition Hall in the city of Zhenjiang near or better to say at the "gates" of Xijin Ferry area. Actually its location is in the middle between the restored traditional Zhenjiang and the remaining old poor areas of Red Light District (the name is not related with other types of Red Light Districts) now partially under reconstruction and restoration. The museum is not big but it "covers" very satisfactorily various sectors of Chinese Art and History through the centuries. Pottery, Calligraphy, Bronze utensils and weapons, jewelry, furniture, paintings etc are some of the things you can see there. Very decorated and sophisticated exhibits such as the ivory arm supporters and the golden earrings and buttons or the ancient coins or even the pioneering pottery, probably will catch your eye. The entrance was free making ideal for many young people from the universities, schools and overall visitors to visit it. It is also suggested to visit the museum prior your walk in the Xijin Ferry area.

Very nice, cool location, near other attractions

It's a small but very nice museum. Most signs are in English and Chinese, though dates are all missing, opting instead for stating the dynasty of the item. The facilities are excellent and the surrounding area is beautiful in an old urban way. There are many surrounding buildings that look ancient with a lot of mixed newer developments. It's a great place to walk around and site see. About 5 minutes away by foot is Boxian Park, another good destination for some sight seeing, but certainly not the best of Zhengjiang.

The flavor of old time

The best way to know a city is to visit museum.Cuz that concentrates the cream of history and culture. A famous motto in The Children's Museum in Wasgington---"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember.I do and I understand" really inspires me. It's not that easy to dig into the long and briliant history of China. But, all u hear and see will help u remember and understand. Last year, I came to see my friend in Zhenjiang. He took me to Zhenjiang Museum, which is quite awesome. Cuz u can check the ancient book, brass, china, gold and silver wares, which has been over thousand years old.The form cite of the museum is The British Consulate, which occupied over 10 square km. So it took me a long time to finish the tour. Moreover, it's free. Noone should come to Zhenjiang and not see this museum the city had to offer.

A place for history buff

Scenery in Zhenjiang is very attractive, the three mountains left me a very deep impression. Except for that, Zhenjiang Museum, which located on the same ancient street as Xijin Ferry looks very beautiful from outside. Although the museum is not very large, it displays cultural relics ranging from the Neolithic Age to the Ming and Qing Dynasties in its exhibition rooms. And we need not to pay for a ticket, it is free to every visitors. I saw many delicate exhibits that I had never seen before, which helped me know more about Zhenjiang’s culture and history.
In short, Zhenjiang Museum records the long culture and history of Zhenjiang. It really worth visiting if came to Zhenjiang!

A quick stop-over when driving through.

Not really anything special, but makes for a convenient stop-over when driving through the region. Get out the car to walk around the exhibits for a while, allow yourself about 20-30 minutes to see everything in this small provincial museum on the history of zhenjiang.

Discover the past of Zhenjiang
Dec 2011 • Couples
The newly built museum is located on the site of the former British Consulate. Zhenjiang became a Treaty Port as of April 1861. Some of the buildings of the consulate are still under renovation and make a very homogeneous architectural complex, along with the new museum, all decorated with red and black bricks.
The museum houses interesting collections of bronze wares, porcelain or painting. Nice view on Zhenjiang from the gardens.

Close to the museum, the site of the old embankment at the time the Yangtze River had not moved its bed to the south. In particular, do not miss the old street that start from the right of the museum and the strange stone pagoda dating from the Yuan dynasty, hanging above the street.

If you like walking, on the street that leaves from the left side of the museum, you will see some old buildings such as the Guild of merchants from Canton or the former Chamber of Commerce. Some of these buildings are now being refurbished.
