Huishan Ancient Town located in the towndown of WUXI city. If you have interest in China culture and history, I reoommend it . It is famous for the China family temple culture. And it is with hundreds of ones. Also it is free of tickets.

Wuxi is within the scope of a weekend trip from Shanghai. It is a place to go and slow down, enjoy some beautiful walks around various parts of Wuxi and of course go visit the Huishan Old Town.
The old town is well preserved and offering tons of beautiful architecture and gardens to enjoy. Please browse through the pictures and decide for yourself. I think it is worth visiting

Huishan Old Town is a tourist area designed to give visitors a sense of life and settings of the late Ming Dynasty (a goal only partially achieved). The old town is currently growing having been developed by the Wuxi government in the area surrounding two minor temples (FanWen Zheng and Luxuangong) located near the better known Huishan Park which the old town abuts.

Most tourists are Chinese from other parts of China and the old town is only crowded on holidays. If you are lucky enough to visit during the week you may have the town largely to yourself. It is very easy to access by taxi from anywhere in Wuxi and has ample underground parking and bus service.

Huishan Old Town is very close to Wuxi, you can get there via bullet train from Shanghai (takes 45 minutes). This is a beautiful little spot, not to be missed if you’re in the area. There are pretty lotus ponds, and gorgeous architecture surrounded by lush gardens. Huishan Old Town is a great place to buy souvenirs, and you will encounter artists and musicians. There are hidden gems everywhere...little nooks and crannies with sculptures and gardens. You will see that it is a very family friendly place, very relaxing to just stroll along the ponds and people watch. There are activities for children, paddle boats and such. It felt like a place where the locals come to meet, play cards and exercise.

A lovely and well set up garden and old town area. We started through the gardens, walking up the hill to the temple, amongst the trees. You walk up a paved way with occasional stairs. It's uphill but easy. Then we went down and walked through the gardens to the bottom the other hill where we took the cable car to the top. This is a must! Great views of the gardens and of the whole city.
And then we took a walk through that small streets along the canal. Some shops there for tourists, some food shops. A really lovely time.my 10yr old daughter loved it!

This is a stunning ancient water town in Wuxi. Its close to the Wuxi city so easiest way to get there is by taxi.

They are currently doing a lot of work and restoration on different buildings - but there is still plenty of uninterrupted beauty to see. The entry fee is a bit confusing it was about 70 Yuan, but is currently under review. After you pay you entry there is also an additional entry fee into many of the small gardens etc. Usually around 10 yuan - I would recommend just paying this (its only a couple of dollars each time) and some of the most beautiful gardens and inner courtyards exist inside. Pick up a map at the entry - there is so much to see - and it will take you a day to get the most out of it. There are lots of artisans and curios for sale along the main street and river seats, places to eat, street food and temples. To get the most out of it it takes all day.

For those interested there is also the pottery museum on site - I enjoyed this - lots to see but might be a bit boring unless you have an interest in arts.

My most recent visit to this ancient town was just after the recent snow - wow - even more beautiful.

Visiting Huishan Old Town is like walking through a history book! The ancient city is one of China's most revered sites, and gives Wuxi a privileged history of more than 3000 years. The garden there is exquisite and you can find food, souvenirs and conversation everywhere inside this Wuxi must-see! We had a fantastic time here!

Although all of the buildings here are recreations of old traditional Chinese buildings, it's a good place to walk around with the camera, especially in Spring and Summer when the flowers are in full bloom. It often gets crowded and noisy which means the restaurants are full and rubbish litters the place, but that's normal wherever large crowds congregate. Lots of shops selling local handicrafts for souvenirs.

This old town is very nice and you will find everything a tourist need there. Unfortunately we found it too empty, too much renovated, and not real at hall. More loke a ghost city to visit during crowed day. Anyway, it is very nice for its architecture its doors and small lakes but something which gives an soul to this place was missing.
