Located on Nanhao Street, (beside the canal, a block away from Shilu Pedestrian Street) Shenxian Temple apparently has a history of more than 800 years. It is small, and if not actively on the watch, one may completely miss it while passing by. Moreover, there is no information available in English and the attendants have no knowledge of the language either. However, it is still a fully functional Taosist temple and one may pass some time there watching the small (but steady) number of devotees come in and go through the rituals; pay their respects to the deities, place offerings and burn incense and candles in the courtyard.

Although small, the temple is the focal point of the annual Ga Shen Xian Temple Fair held in May each year, and is a local tradition. During the (three-day) fair, actors dressed as gods mingle with the crowd, and people try to make their way to reach the “gods”, from whom they can get blessings
