I've been to this theatre twice. Once when it was unknown and difficult to find, but was in good condition and, apparently, seldom visited. More recently I have been there when it was restored fully and attended a delightful performance of one of the classic Chinese plays. The structure compares favourably with the two almost overly restored theatres in the Imperial Palace in Beijing. The museum is much improved and the holdings appear to be the costumes and equipment of the old theatre and opera company here. Include this in a visit to Suzhou along with extraordinary gardens.

Free museum with a good collection that shows the development of Kun Opera. Also provides introduction of popular Kun opera titles and troupes. The highlight, however, is the performance every Sunday at 2pm. Although usually carried out by young performers who may still need practice for voice or dance movements, the show gives a taste of the art with a quite small cost. The performers try hard to add their own understandings to the show as well. I would recommend the show to anyone who is interested in the Kun Opera.

Pick the right turn and explore quieter streets along Pingjiang St. on your way to this museum. You can tour it in less than 15min, and although it's a short visit that doesn't make it less interesting. The museum is very well kept and offers an insight into what a Kun Opera house used to be. The first room is the Opera hall, and the back rooms are exhibit rooms. Go upstairs for a bird view of the courtyard!

A nice little free museum. Most of the information isn't in English, but they do include a translation for the labels on exhibits. The costumes and instruments in the theatre hall were particularly interesting. Worth a trip if you're on Pingjiang road and have some free time.

The museum is only helpful to Chinese speaking people. This could be improved. The house is in excellent condition. The staff is friendly and helpful. Some of the items are not so well described (especially the musical instruments). But the atmosphere is wonderful and the quietness inside the house is unbeatable.

You haven't really experience China unless you've been to a Chinese Opera. It's truly a unique experience. Although they may be quite long, as most operas tend to be, It is worth taking a peek at this unique cultural activity.

If you go early, you can even watch the performer putting on the make-up and costume. It's the sneak peek - "behind the scenes" type of experience that makes it even more unique.

This is a UNESCO heritage site. My husband and I stumbled across it on our walk around Pingjianglu. Almost everything is in Chinese, but one can figure out what is going on. I read that on Sundays they have performances around 2 for about 20 RMB. We have yet to be there on Sunday at 2 to see for ourselves. Pretty buildings and interesting history.
