Nice place to visit, just didn’t rate it as highly as gardens like Tiger Hill. We visited in the morning and one positive was how quiet it was being a lesser known attraction. We definitely enjoyed the peace and music playing as we walked around. Enjoyable hour spent wandering around.

The Pan Men gate area of Suzhou is outstanding. Even if you can't get enough of the traditional gardens of this town, you should make a visit here part of your exploration. Access is relatively easy - get off at Nanmen station on the blue subway line (line 4), and walk for about 15 minutes to the entrance. Pan Men consists of a wonderful garden with pagodas and temples, as well as part of the ancient city wall, including one of the old gates, which blocked access both from land and from water. The garden is beautiful, and the view from the top of the gate, especially at sunset, is amazing.

This scenic area includes many channels and ponds, a tower and a huge fortified gates. This area is a part of an ancient city of Suzhou, which is called an Asian Venice. There is a little exposition of a real gondola presented by the government of Venice to the city of Suzhou. Its pleasant parks and patios would definitely make your day walking around, watching gold fishes in a pond, taking a rest under the trees.

After seeing all the gardens in Suzhou and reading Lonely planet's praise for this place, i was a little disappointed when I saa the Panmen gate scenic area. The gate itself i a fine relict of old times, but there is no special view from the top - just the rooftops of nearby houses. The garden is pretty and enjoyable, but it just didn't compare to Tiger Hill / The Humble Adminstrators Garden / Lion Grove.

I thought Panmen Gate was much more superior to the Humble Administrator's Garden. I probably would never have gone here if it wasn't for a recommendation from a guy who was staying at the same hostel as me in Shanghai, but I'm very glad I visited.
It was a little out of the way via the route I took, I got on the Metro to Nanmen Station and walked about half an hour. Actually there's a very interesting & authentic local market along Xinshi Rd (I think?) which I believe is the Nanmen Market, although it was tough to verify its actual name against the map.
Anyway, upon reaching Panmen Gate I paid the entry fee and was a treated to a large and beautifully laid out garden complete with numerous towers, temples, a pretty substantial lake and even a waterfall. I had a much better experience here than at the Humble Administrator's Garden, for one it was much larger and nowhere near as crowded, and it had a certain sense of magic to it. There are many interesting photo opportunities in this garden as well.

After visiting the Tongli Water Village we went to Suzhou for a very nice lunch and to see the last remaining piece of the city wall the only gate that is left and the moot defence system . There is lots to see in this historic park .

Interesting stroll in the mornings. Had a pagoda and a big garden before the city gate. Lovely scenery and a good jogging track around

Even if you have had it with visiting pagodas and temples, this place garden provides a relaxing stroll through the garden. Don't skip going through the little cave and walking along the canals.

Panmen or Pan Gate consists of the old city walls from the Wu dynasty, uniquely combining land and water gates. It is located on the south western corner of the old city and it can be approached over a tall arch bridge from the southern side.
Panmen leads to a large park with a number of pavillions and ponds, leading to Ruiguang Tower at the other side. It is a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours and although there are better temples, towers, etc elsewhere, the Panmen area contains an example of everything on offer in Suzhou.
