Clueless staff
Jan 2020 • Solo
Went to look around for something to read and though I know it’s hard to find English books in China, the staff here were completely clueless as to where they would be located. Second floor staff sent me to the third and vice versa. Really, how hard is it to keep track? That’s what the computer system is for, right? I’ll stick with taking the train to Shanghai to go to the Foreign Language Bookstore on Fumin Lu!

Great store!

First time visiting the ESlite bookstore chain. The outside of the building didn’t give out a bookstore vibe. When you enter the store you are presented with an aesthetically pleasing interior, exposed tall polished timber roof. It is a multi level book store that have the higher end $$$ of stationary and gifts- similar to a department store.
I would recommend to staying for 2-3 hours.

Titanic book store with a modern shopping experience
Sep 2017 • Friends
It’s basically a well-functioned and large fancy bookstore plus shopping mall. Eslite as the best bookstore in Asia has a good reputation and provides some of most lovely brands here especially attractive to youngsters. The food is very inviting and of good quality. You would probably need half or a whole day to explore, taste, read here. Absolutely recommend.

Nice place to visit

It's very modern and nice, same as the Eslite bookstores in Taipei. Books and gift shop stuffs are expensive but I found something that I could not buy elsewhere. It would be a place that I like to go if I live in SuZhou. However, sometimes the guests are a bit noisy and it's a bit bothersome. And some parents also take kids in and also increase the noise.

Top of the cream for a bookstore
Jan 2017 • Family
Visited Eslite Bookstore with my family in Suzhou as we have been to its main outlet in Taipei city back in 2012 July.
This is a massive place whereby clothings stores and restuarants, even a bike store are located on its ground floor and basement floors.
I like the range of the books that they have available and we can literally soak ourselves in this place for hours.
I strongly recommend this place for families to bring their kids to develop an interest for reading.

Ok place but not my kind of bookstore

Ok bookstore with cafe and shops inside a mall- I prefer more books and less fancy stuff.....hard to find good second hand bookstores in China.
Nice place to read and kill time but other than not- nothing too special

One of our favourite destinations in Suzhou

Eslite book city is not a book store, it’s a mall with book theme. In a world with more and more Ipads, laptops and tablets, it’s wonderful to find a huge space reserved for paper and ink.

There’s nice ‘history staircase’ leading up to the main part of the store (photo attached). Lift access is plentiful throughout the building.

Inside, the floors are massive and divided into sections e.g. cooking, science, children etc. I would have preferred if the layout was a little more organised - there doesn’t seem to be much logic behind how the sections are arranged.

In addition to books, there are multiple mini ‘action stations’ – from art classes, to playdoh for kids, to a CD listening area.

There is a reasonable amount of English language books as well for non-Chinese readers.

The top floor has a space reserved for rotating exhibitions. On separate visits, we’ve seen calligraphy scrolls, a history of Chinese film and an expo on cartoons and Japanese anime.

Away from books, there are places slightly outside the book area for food, coffee, clothes, sunglasses and even a store for Ipad accessories if you really need your digital fix.

A wonderful place for bookworms, and plenty to do even if you don’t like books. You can easily spend an entire day here.

The bookstore’s design is original. Although there are escalators, I chose the stairs to feel cultural history. Because beside the stairs, they list the most popular books each year.
This bookstore also sells some compact discs, stationeries, furniture and so on. They all have elegant design.
I spent much time in reading the books, I read some books that I have read before but different publishers. It is interesting to find the differences in them.
They have almost all kinds of books. And there are many people read books beside me.
Therefore, since the limited space, you may not be easy to find a seat.

An outstanding bookstore
Jul 2016 • Couples
Visiting the Eslite bookstore is an experience. The bookstore is on the top floor of a complex. It is very large with a large collection of books for book lovers. Although it is run by the same chain in Taiwan and Hong Kong, almost all the books are those published in China. I find very few books published in Taiwan or Hong Kong. If you are a book lover, read books in Chinese, and happen to be in Suzhou, then this is a must for you. Like other Eslite bookstores in Taiwan and Hong Kong, the other floors of the complex are filled with shops and resturants. The resturants are very crowded during meal times. It is best for you to go the resturants in between meal times.
