The most incredible Racecourse you have ever seen. A new wonder of the world
Oct 2016 • Business
The government of Inner Mongolia have built one of the finest racecourse in the world in their Capital, Hohhot "The Blue City". It looks like a Mongolian Space ship 275 metres long and 36 high and can hold 700 people. It has 12 VIP lounges, 2 fitness centres, recreation hall, exhibition hall etc. On the top of the building are 4 Mongolian yurts gaily painted with white clouds. The oval course is 750 metres long and can accommodate the Mongolian love for horses and racing. Only problem is no bets as illegal in China. You must visit. Another personal favourite in Hohhot is the dinosaur museum. Also lots of great hotels and restaurants. Ganbei!

strolled across here as it was opposite our hotel

The racecourse seemed to be closed and under repair when I visited. It is right across from the Baogang Haide Hotel, and we had a lovely view of it, so decided to walk across to it the next morning. The architecture is mongol traditional, and the buildings are painted mostly in blue and white, althogh the maon building was very colourful. There are quite a few statues of horses outside the main building.

I was hoping to see Mongolian racehorses grazing, but was disappointed as the gates to the main stable area were closed. If you are staying closeby, it is a good opportunity to take photos of the buildings, and Genghis Khan Park is a 5 minute walk away. I hope we will see a race on our next visit.

Worth a visit to see the horses grazing even when there is no racing

My guide took me for a look at the racetrack and to see the racehorses grazing in the middle of the track. It's quite a colourful place and was nice to walk around the track...even if we maybe weren't supposed to. Would definately be worth going to see a race here as I was told by the locals it is quite a spectical.
