I was expecting something better & modern. The tanks didnt seem maintained at all. Although they do have good quality of fishes, I was rather disappointed with the overall infrastructure (given that we had to shell out around 85 RMB per person for this!!). The jelly fish section was a bit interesting. They indicated that there were octopus on first floor, but there were only empty tanks! As usual, the place was highly crowded, definitely not worth a visit here. Better to hang around the park areas of East lake & skip this.

Sea World at East Lake aka Dong Hu Sea World

This is a pleasant diversion when one is visiting Wuhan. The aquarium has a wide variety salt and freshwater fishes, jellyfish, penguins, and a few sea lions. The aquarium is much bigger on the inside than it appears. The aquarium has a wide variety of fish tanks and habitats. You can see several very rare fish, such as (and yes I do not know the exact names) Chinese freshwater sharks and a variety of Asian sturgeon. The penguin and diver shows are more Asian than Western. For instance the diver would ride a large stingray across the tank or place his hand in the stingray mouth and be dragged across the tank. Some of the cages are small.

A point of interest for children is the fish milk, and I had never seen this before. For a low cost, one buys a small bottle of fluids that fish enjoy drinking. The fish will swarm the bottler and make sucking sounds as they drink the fluids. Finally, the gift shop has some unique gifts such as sailing ships constructed of shells at reasonable prices (a 12 inch by 12 inch by 3 inch ship for about $7 with no haggling). Also, at the exit was something I had only saw once. There were a series of murals, within which customers placed themselves, to create action photographs. When the review gets posted, I will post some photographs.

For comparison, I would rate the aquarium better than New Orleans but not as good at Baltimore
