Okay, but needs some updating.

Exhibits are interesting but lighting is poor and many explanations are missing. Interactive exhibits often do not work. Student guides on weekends are available. The top floor is focused on the donated collection of a noted scientist. In all, this museum gives you a basic overview of the geologic riches in this province and the expertise of university scientists.

Exhaustive content for a small relatively small museum!
Jun 2015 • Family
The museum itself is not very big, in comparison for example to the Hubei Provincial Museum, but it's tightly packed, and makes for a good couple of hours of education and fun.

My six year old loved the dinosaur fossils, and reconstructed skeletons, and was surprisingly interested in the various types of minerals. I did wish there were a few more explanations in English, but alas.

Apart from the museum itself, we walked around the campus of the university, adjacent to the museum, and found it to be quiet and interesting. There was a small fossilized-tree garden, various types of rock on display and shaded streets.

The university and the museum are located about 20 minutes walking distance away from the Optics Valley Square station, but the time spent will be worthwhile!

There's a small fee for the entrance.

Amazing place
It is an amazing place and a must visit for anyone with any interest in natural history, gems and crystals. Although it has an entrance fee of 40 yuan which makes it a bit expensive. Ticket price is 20 yuan for students and for some reason it was free today.

We had a great time
Jun 2011
Located right on the University grounds, this little gem of a museum has a collection of dinosaur skeletons and amazing geologic specimens. We spent an hour here and enjoyed the exhibits. It's small and would be very good for people with younger children who want to get up close. Accross the road is the petrified forest recreated for kids and adults.
