I arrived at Henan Museum as part of a guided tour, little did we know that the museum is closed for renovation. There is a small exhibit to the side of the museum showing ancient pottery. However, it was only a small fraction of what...More
The Henan museum is currently undergoing renovations, however don't let that put you off making a visit. One can easily spend 2 hours absorbing the impressive collection of Chinese artefacts. Descriptions are in both Chinese and English which is not the case in a lot...More
We visited in a beautiful day. The museum was an electric mix of anchor to pottery and bronze. Artifacts were found along the yellow river. There is much history to be learned so take the time, about 2 hours, to absorb the culture and history.
The main museum is being renovated, so all you see is a small subset of the artefacts. They are fascinating with excellent English labelling and historical descriptions. What is on display is worth an hour or two. Anyway there's not much else to see in...More
So glad museum owns this and not one individual.

I absolutely loved the Henan Museum because of my love of art, especially clay. I felt honoured to see such old pieces that were dated as far back as the 7000 years ago. The museum was have an overhaul but that didn’t take away from...More
Just did a day trip to Luoyang from Zhengzhou and here are some tips to share with everyone. Took the G train from Zhengzhou East to Luoyang Longmen. The early 7:21 train was not full but I got my ticket the night before to avoid any potential queues so early in the morning. The Zhengzhou East ticket counter closes at 11:30pm. The trip took about 40 minutes. Taxi from the station (洛阳龙门) to the grottoes (龙门石窟) costed 15 yuan as a one-off but I think I got ripped off compared to using the...More

How many days for Xi'an vs Luoyang? (11 Replies)
I will be flying into Xi'an and flying out of Zhengzhou so my plan is to visit Xi'an, Luoyang, and Zhengzhou/Kaifeng. My trip will last 8 days where I'll be flying into Xi'an on Monday at 5PM and leaving Zhengzou on the following Monday at 9PM. How many days would you spend in each city given this time frame? I'm thinking I should spend, at least, 4 nights in Xian because the first night I'm getting there at 5PM on the first night and probably won't be able to do much that first...More

Zhengzhou is not worth spending a lot of time in except as a transport hub. Kaifeng has lost to modern redevelopment, what used to make it special. Shaolin Si is very tourist-contrived now, but if you do want to go do Dengfeng, stop in at the big Taoist temple that is a bit up the road. Luoyang City including the Grottoes is good for a day. Xi'an two full days or if you are very big on ancient Chinese history, a third day. One place not on your list that you might consider is Yuntaishan for...More
