Impressive monument
Dec 2020 • Solo
An impressive monument, and worth walking down to see. It lights up at night, illuminated different colours. Slightly sidelined by the ice sculptures around, but still lovely to see. Also a great Starbucks here for a warming cup of coffee with a view!

Impressive monument
Jan 2020
It is just a monument on the river, doesnt seem to have any English on it but does have a big height line. I would assume this is where the floodwaters got to. It would have put a lot of the riverside under water. Impressive nature

Next to Song Hua River
Dec 2019 • Family
Came here twice with my family members- once at night and during the day.

Stalin Park is just next to this and must walk at night. At that time, there were works going on at Stalin Park and the monument as the workers and artists were busy carving ice and snow sculptures. It’s like the entire city are busy with a huge project. There were lighted ice sculptures at the monument at night and we crossed the busy curved lane to get to Zhongyang Main Street or Central Ave for shopping and dinner.

The next day, we visited again but this time to participate in the Song Hua River Snow and Ice Carnival. Song Hua River was frozen and there were a lot of activities are taking place on it. There were kiddy rides, horse carriages, snow buggies, tobanggans, banana boats on ice, kiddy tanks and so on. Each ride was around RMB 50-80 , for just 5 mins or 10 mins, which I felt was rather expensive. They didn’t take cash.. Nor was there any ticketing booth. Had to pay via WeChat or AliPay.

Memorial Tower
Dec 2019
This memorial tower is quite ordinary in structure and design, but its historical significance draws tourists to this tower. It commemorates the victory of the people during the great flood in 1957. Look out for the horizontal bar, which indicates the flood level at that time. I recommend you plan your itinerary to visit this memorial tower together with the nearby Saint Sophia Cathedral and Zhongyang (Central) Pedestrian Street.

Impressive central monument overlooking the Songhua
Sep 2019 • Couples
Located on the Songhua riverfront at the end of Harbin’s most celebrated tourist street (Z.Y. Street), the Memorial is a monument to those Harbiners whose lives were impacted on by the 1957 flood catastrophe which swept the city. It honours both the victims and the heroes of the disaster. Very impressive spectacle especially at night when the arch takes on a kaleidoscope of colours (a very popular contrivance generally with Chinese town planners). The riverine park on the western side of the Flood Memorial Tower (in the direction of Stalin Park) is a pleasant stroll through garden edges, Weeping Willows variant tress and marble sculptures.

Warm sunny July day
Jul 2019 • Friends
We were out and about shopping and spending time in Zhongyang Pedestrian Street and if you walk the entire length of the street, you’ll come to this monument. It was constructed to honor those that saved the area from flooding. There were many people out and the atmosphere was okay to walk around. Many people were staring out into the Songhua River to see the huge water cannon spraying many meters into the air. If you’re in the area, its worth around a 10-15-minute stroll.

Dec 2018 • Family
Near to the Songhua river located within an open square. There is a shopping mall beside it. For me this is a photo spot so we just pay a short visit only.
