Pleasant and quiet
Oct 2019
Bailin Temple is open 8am-4pm and is free to enter. It is a working temple and centre for Buddhism in Hebei. Apart from the pagoda, most of the buildings were rebuilt in the early 1990s and the temple is not particularly historically interesting, though it's pleasant and quiet and would be great for practicing Buddhists. We found the temples in Zhengding much more interesting.

Bailin is easy to get to from Nanjiao bus station 南焦客运站. Take the bus to Zhao county 赵县 (13RMB; foreigners pay at the information desk). It takes about 75 minutes depending on traffic. Get off at the bus stop opposite the temple gate (柏林寺). The bus back goes from the stop outside the gate: look for the characters for Shijiazhuang in the window (石家庄). The last bus is at 6pm. You'll stop in Zhaoxian to pick up more passengers and you'll pay after this. They might also offer the option of changing to a bus leaving earlier in which case you pay on the second bus.

You might see this temple listed as Bolin, since the character 柏 has two pronunciations.

Quiet and peaceful temple
Oct 2019 • Family
Went there with my family and in-laws and we were all thoroughly enjoying the visit. This temple is very big and there are still monk living there. There are many over 1000-year old cypress pine tress in the temple which gives me a feeling of connecting the past.

Interesting Visit
Apr 2017 • Couples
The Visit was very interesting and the various Temples and beliefs strange but adds to one's understanding of the various cultures.. Be prepared for many hours on your feet and heavy traffic all over getting there and back.

Reviews from local

I'm a local in Shijiazhuang and I have to say Bailin Temple is a great place for a visitor in here. There are many people, of course. I have be there few times and I recommend visitors to go there in Fall. There are Maples everywhere. It's really beautiful. Don't forget to walk inside the temple and taste traditional Chinese culture!

Best religious attraction for buddists and nice cultural attraction for others
Sep 2014
We went in a group on a bright sunny day. Around 50km from Shijiazhuang city should take max 1hr. But highway reconstruction job spoiled extra 1and half hr. Nice design on each bulding and door. Best is the pagoda. Plan for a trip, time will not be spoiled.

Outstanding Buddhist temple that attracts visitors from all over the world. Apparently, Buddhists from around the world come to meditate and study here. Believers circle three times clockwise in silence around the tower that was erected over the tomb of a famous founder.

It really seems like a interesting place, unfortunately it was so cold this day that we (me and some friends from Sweden) had to leave since we were freezing. I will come back.....

For buddhist, it is free for visit. It is a temple of Zen tradition. The head Ming Hai was graduated from Beijing University in 1989, so it attracts many intellects and colleage students to study Zen and meditation. Buddhist visitors can live in the temple at very low price. I have lived in the temple for several times for meditation and experiencing traditional buddhist life.

The founder, Master Jing Hui just passed away in 20.April.2013 with age 80.
