Limited choice and very expensive provided it is duty free. It would be cheaper to travel all the way to the USA to purchases branded international goods than getting over here.

We went in then out. It was so crowded.
There were luxury brands such as Gucci, Burberry and LV.
However they will not give you the items purchased. You have to have your passport, airline ticket proving you are leaving Sanya. You will receive your items at the airport on the day you will travel.
I liked a couple of items but I was concerned about the fact that I would pay a hefty amount for a Gucci or LV bag and not receive it at the airport. This concern is because no body speaks English at all in Sanya. In if I have a problem receiving my goods no one will be able to help me.
So we just browsed for about 10 minutes.

This is recognised as the World's largest duty-free mall situated at Haitang Bay, Sanya in the Hainan Province of China. The building and its architecture are magnificent, and you will find all the World's major designer labels represented there. The unfortunate aspect of this duty free is that the prices are so high, you could pay for your return airfares to Rome (Spanish Steps) or Paris (Champs Elysees), plus pay for a couple of nights accommodation - do all your Designer Label duty free shopping (VAT Refund Purchasing) and you would still save money. The prices are on average 4 - 10 times higher than Paris, Rome, London or even Sydney. For example a simply Men's Polo Shirt $400!! So go for the architecture and keep your wallet in your pants.

We were staying at a resort at Haitang Bay and wanted to have a activity outside of the hotel we decided to go to the duty free center. It is basically a Chinese shopping mall with slightly lower prices there are no good dining options. If you are a foreigner I don't recommend you to go there, if you are Chinese and like shopping it could be ok.

I don't know whether the Sanya duty free shop and haitang bay duty-free Shopping centre are the same but both is called cdf mall if I am not mistaken. There may be duty free shop one is downtown Sanya and another in Haitang but I am not sure. I went to haitang bay duty-free Shopping centre (cfc mall) i.e haitangwan mianshui gouwu zhongxin (海棠湾免税购物中心). It was around 1 hour away from the Luhuitou park and costed aroud 20 yuan each in a public bus. The market had a magnificiant architecture and had branded shop such as Gucci, Prada, Armani , Piaget, Rolex, Rado etc. and they sure did not come cheap. There is a liquor shop and the price is a bit higher than the local shop. Although you can visit any branded shop when you purchase you need to require Original Id, and Flight itinerary. Shopping Hours: Mon to Sun 10:00-22:00. I would not recommend to visit this place unless you are looking to buy some branded stuff which are expensive. There is a food court, KFC , Pizza hut at the top floor.

The Duty Free Mall is very small and has only a few international brands in comparably small stores (hence limited selection of items). If you are an international traveller, you will get better offers at the various airport's Duty Free Shops or Global Refund.

A limited range of high end suppliers. For most people don't bother going. It only has high end fashion, cosmetic and bag shops and not much else. Not even good eatery places.
