Very expensive hotels on the coast, swimming is prohibited - there are signs. The waves are big, there are few people, there is a long forest belt along the beach. There is no normal entertainment, except for a luxury shopping center, a lot of construction, just nowhere to go for a walk

It is a beautiful beach and clear water! However, what good is it if they don't let you swim. They will yell at you. They had red flags out and even in the reviews on here say the waters are rough. Absolutely not today. Maybe another time but while I was here it was great for swimming even for average swimmers. The waves were maybe a foot or two with very little current and definitely not dangerous. It was easily a yellow flag day. This is a nice resort location for relaxing. It is beautiful and quiet but don't come here to swim in the ocean even on a calm day; not allowed. I gave three for that reason. I would give a definite four if they allowed getting in the ocean beyond your knees. 🤦🏼♂️😬

We walked about four km from where we were staying to visit this bay. The bay is typical of an ocean, but the beach area was not very big. It was crowded because there is not a deep shore line. It is long, but not deep so keep this in mind. I would rather go to Yalong bay or Sanya Bay if I want to go swimming and go walk along the beach. The sights are still beautiful and it is a beach still.

First of all: during my stay swimming was interdicted due to dangerous waves. But moreover, this is not the kind of beaches we are used to from Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia,... They are not vivid at all, because each hotel has a part of it, 5-star hotels adjacent to each other, so no local flavour or atmosphere when you walk along

Beautiful beach, not crowdy, silent, but it is not allowed to swim here. Lots of luxurious hotels in that area.

One of the main bays in Hainan, Haitang Bay is very quiet and still under development.
Located about 40 minutes from Sanya (~RMB150 from the airport) the beaches here are not suitable for swimming. The waves are too strong and signs are up to warn visitors of the water condition.
To the north of Haitang square, there is a stretch of beachfront hotels. All around the area, there are construction work as many new hotels are being built.
I would almost equate Haitang Bay as a resort town, as places are not easy to get to without a car, and cabs aren’t that readily available on the streets.
I would recommend staying at Haitang Bay if you’re looking for peace and quiet and don’t need to be in the ocean. However, I wouldn’t make a day trip out here as there’s really nothing to see here (except for the duty free mall if you’re into name brands and shopping).

A clean beach with good views. The water quality is good and the beach is very untouched, if compared to Sanya bay.
Good place to just relax and enjoy the good weather in Sanya.

The beach area is clean and well maintained. There are swimming areas. Not much in the resort apart from hotels and a vast duty free shopping complex, but if you are here for a beach, pool and sun then you will not be disappointed.

I am considering spending NYE 2019 at Haitang Bay. Likely to be staying in one of those beach front hotels & traveling with my 65 yr old mom & 8 yr old child. Besides the countdown dinner provided by hotels are there any other celebrations going on in the area ? Like fireworks & beach party etc ?
Also spending 7 days in Haitang Bay - Too long or just nice ? We are ok to travel around for sightseeing so any reccos will be much appreciated

There are many hotels on the beach, all international chains. If you wish to have an authentic experience, I would liketo recommend Sunny Sanya Destination Hotel Haitang Bay
The hotel is nestled in the mountains, it's modern and tasteful, and perfectly positioned for South Hainan exploration.
A great stay for the discerning traveller in Hainan, who doesn't wish to be smack in the middle of the swarming hordes!
It's all new, as it's just been refurbished and has a lovely restaurant area.
The local beach is absolutely superb - a real treasure - just fifteen minutes from the hotel by bicycle; clean, virtually empty a lot of the time, but at the very least definitely uncrowded and unspoilt - you need go no further for a perfect beach.. miles and miles of it! It's great for all kinds of surfing too.
The hotel is perfectly located for visiting Sanya and Yalong if you want to, but there is plenty of good food, local colour and culture in the local town of Ling Wang, including Sanya's Wanda super mall.. a mall to end them all.. ;>
