It is still under developed but very clean water and not so many people here. Need to take water, foods and sun cream to avoid sunburn all no shops can be seen near to beach area.

One of the main bays in Hainan, Haitang Bay is very quiet and still under development. Located about 40 minutes from Sanya (~RMB150 from the airport) the beaches here are not suitable for swimming. The waves are too strong and signs are up to warn...More

The beach here has a pretty rough surf - the current is strong and not good for swimming but all other aspects are great. The waves are fun, as long as you stay in the shallows, the beach is deserted and very nice to walk...More

..that Haitang Wan is as unspoilt, un-besmirched, and un-cluttered (with tourists) as it was last time I visited.. January 2016 as I recall. The local beaches are superb - a real treasure; clean and virtually empty a lot of the time, but at the very...More

First of all: during my stay swimming was interdicted due to dangerous waves. But moreover, this is not the kind of beaches we are used to from Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia,... They are not vivid at all, because each hotel has a part of it, 5-star...More

I came across this bay when I was looking for a location from a TVC featuring an actor walking on a deserted beach. Haitang Bay at the time only had 4 hotels. The beach could look deserted if we blocked the pedestrian traffic right. A...More

Make sure to visit this beach now before this area gets filled with aback to back hotels. It’s far from everything in Sanya however that’s what makes it a good beach to visit. Not a lot of tourist so perfect for having the beach to...More

Beautiful beach, not crowdy, silent, but it is not allowed to swim here. Lots of luxurious hotels in that area.

Which train station at Haikou Meilan International Airport? (7 Replies)
Hi, I'm travelling to Hainan in December and was trying to do research in getting to Sanya. I am confused using the online china train guides. The trains say either Haikou Train Station or Haikou East Train Station. I've read that there is a train station that is connected to the Hainan Meilan International Airport (HAK) but I cannot find information as to which train station it is. I need to find out so I can plan out which train I need to take in getting to Sanya. I will be staying at...More

Hi, I am a local, I would like to suggest you to take the train at Haikou airport, the station's name is Meilan Station, then get off the train at YaLongwan Station in Sanya, then ask the driver from your hotel to pick you up.

4 nights in Haitang Bay - Day trips? (4 Replies)
Hi, my wife and I will stay at the end of the month 4 nights at the Conrad Sanya for some R&R. While there we are looking for 2-3 day trips to explore southern Hainan. We like hiking and forests, but also traditional lifestyle (if that makes sense). I heard about the chance of visiting a local fishing village - would that be recommended? Also, in terms of hiking, what do you recommend? Yanoda, wuzhishan, or what else? thanks!

We recommend you to visit Yalong Bay since it's less crowded and the scenes there are good to visit. Also, you can visit Sanya Bay where the sunrise and sunset are especially terrific to view.

Communication in Sanya (9 Replies)
Hi, in terms of communication, do we have to buy a local SIM card or do the local restaurants use apps like WeChat or Whatsapp ? We will be going straight to the hotels at Yalong Bay and Haitang Bay from the airport and through research, it was said that its difficult to purchase SIM cards at the airport. Any advice ? Thanks.

If you cannot find SIM at airport China Mobile has shop in Fenghuang road no 294. Not too far from airport and can continue to Yalong/Haitang from there.
