Don’t make a special trip unless to kill time before or after flight.

An average place/mall.
Place was clean and big but was totally lacking in human traffic.
Come only to kill time and don’t expect much in terms of special pricing or discount despite being outlet/duty free.

Prices are the same if purchased outside of country.

Selection of shops are also limited

New International Wing, clean, fast

Melian Airport Haikou
International Terminal

The new International Terminal is new and much much better than the domestic terminal.

Likes: Clean, clearly marked signs. Organized check in counter despite only 8 counters. Fast immigration. Duty free shops inside departure area. ATMs, restaurants, free wifi (China Net). Very clean restrooms

Dislikes: going to the domestic terminal requires you to ride a big golf cart shuttle (7 minutes), bad if you have more than one piece of luggage.

Tip: Go to the garden, theres a koi pond and a snack bar. And the cheapest beer in the airport (15RMB)

Nothing much to see

It's new and clean. But. Nothing much to see. Not particular things to write. I fly from hk to haikou by dragon air and they open only 2 hours before flight time. So after finishing checking in. No much time for traveler either.

Travelling to Haikou city

There is a free internal airport yellow bus that stops at the domestic and international airport. To take a bus to the city at $10 reminbi, tell the bus driver to stop at the side opposite the public bus stop 21. You transfer from the yellow bus to the public bus. The bus brings you directly into the city.
