Interesting and beautiful environment - good for strolling with family or friends - not a typical view on Modern China of These days

must go place in Beihai
Nov 2018
The colonial style building are kept very well that can go back hundred years.
Suggest to go before 10 o'clock in the morning which is not too hot for most of people and the street is very quite for people who want good picture taken or go after 6 o'clock at evening which the street is more vivid. It is good place for buying gift and try some local food. Buy the way, if you want buy some gifts, always give no more than 1/3 of giving price. people are nice and friendly in general.

Great place1

This is a great place to get gifts to take back home. Remember that haggling is normal. It may also be better to have a translator to help with this. Mine helped quite a bit!

Decaying Buildings...
Aug 2017 • Couples
Spent a hot and sweaty three hours this afternoon slowly walking and looking at all the decaying buildings. Plenty of places to stop for a drink or bite to eat and shops for retail therapy if that's your thing....

Beautiful
Apr 2017 • Solo
Came here on a misty, warm day. The place was magical. Come before 10am and you'll have a quiet, picturesque authentic old street almost to yourself. So much beautiful architecture that I just spent ages looking up at all the buildings.

Old Town Street Walk
May 2016 • Family
My wife and friends thought this was quite interesting (but sadly not for me - maybe I've been around too much!). Loads of shops selling coral and other crafts from sea creatures/growths - possibly too much of the same up and down the street. BUT there is a great restaurant along the right hand side going from the sea front area - apologies name forgotten - but excellent decor and food; mixed cuisine to boot.
A huge -ve is the actual locale - the lack of convenient access. It is in amongst the old town, which is quite interesting in it's own right. The downside being it is riddled with narrow streets with just enough room for one 'normal family car; now add in the typical driving mentality - I leave the rest to your imaginations.
So if you are going, do it by taxi and be very careful when you exit at either end of the street.

Go during the day...
Jul 2016 • Couples
Me and my wife went at night and it wasn't very picturesque. The street itself is a tourist trap with like a mile of shops and Kiosks selling the same kind of crap, with restaurants scattered about. With that being said, it is a nice place to visit, but if you want to do some shopping, that isn't the place. Specially if you are trying to find some deals. Drivers kept telling us about the wholesale pearl market, and if you're going to buy them don't buy them from people on the street (unless you don't mind them being fake, in which case they should be 10 - 20 rmb depending on how generous you feel). Anyway, I digress. The street itself is worth at least one visit (I plan to go back to Beihai next year, and I'll definitely come to this place during the day) and its a good a place as any to waste a few hours.

The best part about this street is that a 10 minute walk in the other direction from the entrance of it, lies the place where all the locals go to eat. Best quality seafood we had during our entire stay in Beihai, and it wasn't priced for tourists. If you can speak Chinese, ask around and it is super easy to find.

Diversity street
Oct 2015 • Couples
On daylight you see the street a bit different way than in the evening with lights. In someway very original and at the same time very commercial street. Worth of visiting but not very special.

Very interesting area
Oct 2015 • Family
Beihai Old Street (Zhuhai West/Middle/East road) it's almost 1.5 km long. Was built since the end of 1800. Overhang-style buildings, which combine Western and Chinese elements, line the street.

The buildings have a front room near the street, the store, and the remaining rooms to the rear, as the shopper residence.

Usually they are decorated with pretty arched door and windows and the exteriors of the arched windows and window posts are decorated in European style.

Many of them are in a very bad status, some are restored. Bars, restaurants and shops color the street.

For sure a place where to spend some hours, bargaining for souvenir, bracelets or tiger's pomate....
