Ovrerpriced and boring.

I played C and D course (Lake Course) as the other was under maintenance. Noone told us when we booked that the greens have been cored and sanded that very morning. Fairways were like a rough, and greens like a fairway. Holes where not even cut so some of them were half the normal size of overgrown grass! Layout is uninspired and we drove a cart back and forth because of road closures. I have never driven more on a round. Greens are flat and boring. No discount for sanded greens, and 800 RMB is a rip off! Stay away.

Not that fantastic golf course

I played on the course recently. Is a relatively short course. Overall the course itself has a couple of quite challenging holes (a lot of character) like the hole 14. Some of the holes you can't even see the pin on the green and you had to rely on the caddie to give you direction. The weather was quite misty on the day we played but cooling - about 20 degrees. The caddie are quite knowledgable and helpful. However the condition of the green was really pathetic. Can see patches of soil and on some holes, you were like putting on sand. I hope they do something to improve it. There is some construction going on for a new course which will be ready by end of year (that's what I was told). Overall is average.

A very good value course

I have been to this course many times, in fact it is the only one I have been to. Really good place to go and very good value, walk-in price for week days is 1000 RMB on foot for 18 holes, but sometimes they have special offers which brings the 18 holes on foot to 800RMB. The changing facilities are clean and well equiped. There is a restaurant on the premises serving mostly Chinese food. To cap it all it is just outside of Zhuhai and a taxi from Gongbei to there costs 70 to 80 RMB.

Plenty of Character

The A course front nine winds its way through plush woodland with superlative views of Nanshan ( South Mountain ). Generously broad fairways tempt the unsuspecting golfer to grip it and rip it but bunkers the size of Texas lie in wait. The 5th green is two tiered and if you overshoot a front pin placement, the return journey is precipitous.

The hillside front nine transitions nicely to a flatter back nine B course. Marginally shorter holes with slightly less generous fairways but with a greater need for Club selection on the approach shot. Locals call the deceptively short 14th the 魔鬼洞, which loosely translates as the ‘demon’ hole. While only 339 yards from the Blue tees, having to cross water on the drive as well as the approach exercises one’s sphincter muscles.

All in all, a wonderful golf course (that maybe deserves 3.5 stars ) with a fine mix of holes and plenty of unique character. Definitely deserves a replay even though it’s about 40 mins from Zhuhai. Be sure to call ahead to get preferential "tourist" rates which are 25% cheaper than rack rates of about 1,000RMB weekday.
