Leisurely stroll, well worth a look.

This is a pretty, peaceful park. There are statues, a waterfall, and a scenic view of the city from Dr Sun Yat Sen's statue. If you're into photography, it's a great spot to capture the essence of Zhongshan.

I didn't know much about the history of Zhongshan until i visited this place.Try to downs at least a day checking out all the o other memorials dedicated to the founding father of republic of China.
I was also surprised to learn that Dr.Sun Yat sen or Zhongshan was a Christian convert until his last breath.
It was indeed an honor to get to know about this part of history. Glad i had some English speaking Chinese friends who translated fir me.

Great statue of Sun-Yat Sen
Enjoyed my quick stop at this park. Approached it from the back. Ran up the steps. Looked at the statue and appreciated the view down XingChong Road. I can see how there's hiking to be done, but that wasn't for me.

My Favorite Park
Feb 2014
Sun Wen Memorial Park is one of the biggest parks in Zhongshan. The other is Zhimaling Park. Sun Wen is another name of Dr. Sun Yatsen. Zhongshan is the birth place of Dr. Sun. That is one of the reason I like Zhongshan in the beginning. You will find some other interesting places related to Dr. Sun in Zhongshan, including the village where he was born and brought up.
Sun Wen Park is big. Most of it is well maintained, which I think is very important issue. It doesn't matter a place is big or small, but maintenance is very important. There is still more to do for the park, e.g., it's restrooms. It should be updated, ASAP.
You can see some nice flowers and plants all over the park. It get hills that you can climb up. It gets a few ponds with some goldfish and stone sculptures. It is located right in the center of the city. I love the large pine trees growing close to main entrance of the park with the statue of Dr. Sun high up in the middle. You can see him from a far distance all around. He is basically overlooking the City of Zhongshan. The park gets free parking at both entrances. Usually the park is not crowded, so you feel comfortable go around. If you have time, spending two hours here is encouraged, otherwise an hour will also be fine. Come back at different time of the year is also a good idea for the park, as for many places.

Hike your butt off !

Literally if you want to cover all this park you can lose that extra five pounds that's been stubbornly hanging on ! It's pretty large and meanders around and around with some steeper inclines so wear some good shoes. The memorial is a great vantage point to shoot pictures of the cityscape and there are some pretty cool rocks ( the Chinese love rocks with good "shape") and a view point in the back of the park ( south end ) that has a man made waterfall and flows and you can wend your way up the hillside past ( and through ) this until you get lost in the woods. I had a good time just wandering around and hearing the occasional "hello" from the Chinese teens clustered around.
