Shenzhen airport
Dec 2019
This airport is really large but easy to find your way. The most important thing in airport is to leave your lihgter behind. You can neither take it with you to the plane nor put it in your luggage. If you have an expensive lighter, don't take it with you to China, if you don't want to lose it.

Bring cash
Jan 2020
Nobody speaks English here. Cold impersonal vibe of the place and expensive food. The only star I give is to bright colours. Always carry cash.

Take sometime to spend before your departure
Aug 2019
If you fly out from Shenzhen, then spare some time to walk around this big airport and you will admire the construction, the art design etc. They have various shops and food outlets. Yet, not sure if they accept international credit cards or not, but they will accept UnionPay credit card. So get ready with cash in local currency just in case you may need to buy something to eat or drink prior to your departure.
Also a good place to visit if you have spare time in the city. the Shenzhen Metro has a stop directly to the airport, very convenience.

Modern airport not geared up for transit passengers
Apr 2019 • Couples
This modern airport does not give a good experience for transit passengers:

Transit: Pax must obtain a visa just to cross the airport and the process is badly organised, bureaucratic and very slow (2.5 hours). Poor instructions, signage and language barriers add to the confusion.

Money: The 'normal' means of international payment - VISA, Mastercard etc - are not accepted by any outlets we could find. The bank was closed, ATM had run out of cash. Change money ahead of time or prepare to go hungry.

The airport is not (yet) organised for international transit passengers. Improvements are needed otherwise passengers will avoid.

Very modern airport but few English speakers
Apr 2019 • Business
If you only speak English, good luck. This airport is beautiful to look at but very confusing for those who have not been through a couple times. Delta Air Lines has no people here but often book passengers here via codeshares with China Eastern and China Southern, who have no idea what Delta is.

Clean restrooms.

Dreadful experience
Feb 2019 • Solo
The only reason I stopped here is because Shenzen Airlines was the cheapest option. I had 7 hours layover at the airport, 3 (three!!!!) of which used to get a bloody stamp on the passport enabling me to walk freely within the airport. 3 hours for a stamp - unbelievable. The staff was incompetent unprepared and unable to speak decent English. Horrendous experience and worst airport ever.

Open just few years ago. Modern, spacious, in all aspects. A lot of option for fast food and restaurants. Good connection to metro 🚊 and taxi 🚕.

Nice Clean Airport
Mar 2018 • Business
The Airport itself is very huge and clean. There are a few restaurants which serve Vegetarian, but was a trouble finding anyone speaking English to guide us there.

Lost our way when getting there but nice airport with good amenities
Dec 2017 • Family
Our flight departure from Shenzhen was past midnight. After some self-research and consideration, we decided to go by the subway. We were staying at Dongmen so we took the subway from Laojie station, on Line 1 (Green Line). Actually, we were confused about the destination station, namely the Airport East station and Airport station. Unfortunately, we were not very fluent in Mandarin, couldn't find much information online and didn't manage to clarify about the exact station to get to the airport. So, we took the subway until we reached Airport East station, continuing on Line 1 thinking that it was just another terminal of the same airport. We only realised upon arrival that we went to their old airport which is no longer in service and it is quite a distance to our intended destination. We were rather frantic as the subway and buses were no longer in operation due to the late hours. Luckily, there was a taxi waiting at the station and the ride costed RMB 80.

Lesson learnt: to always clarify when in doubt. It is indeed possible to take the subway to the airport, where you will need to take or change lines to Line 11 to Airport station.

The airport was quiet and there weren't any shops opened at that hour except for some cleaning staffs working and there was a mart opened near the departure gates. The toilets were clean and there were water dispensers providing cool, warm and hot water. Overall, it was a satisfying experience.
