Good market, poor food and expensive
Sep 2019
My wife and I went as she loves her fish and seafood, not so much for me although I will try anything.
We chose small razor clams for lunch, you're encouraged to dive in and get the ones you want, we were even given a few extras after paying. The clams were given to a local small restaurant to cook them up for our lunch, they charge 30Y per dish to do this for you. We also got 1 bowl of rice and a dish of wonton soup as well for an extra 10Y.
Whilst they tasted ok, the chef neglected to give them a thorough scrub and so every other mouthful had sand in.
We did our veg shopping in the market too and they were very fresh and reasonably priced. However a half of roasted goose and a small piece of belly pork set us back 80Y. Dont think there was any value there.
For myself as a photographer I got more enjoyment out of the streets surrounding the area, there are some interesting alleys to explore.
Glad we went for the experience but its not a must go in my opinion.

Is it more expensive than foreign prices?

Expensive or cheap, the sea-life sold here is fresh. There are hundreds of tanks and tables on which are offered all types of sea-life and seafood. Buy it to take home, or one of the restaurants on the street will be happy to prepare it for your dining pleasure.

Awesome street but be smart

It’s a small street packed with Restaurants with live seafood tanks on both side of the street.

You get to pick your dinner right on the street. As you walk by each restaurant, the “waiter” comes out and solicit you to eat there. You start by picking the live seafood on the street, MAKE SURE you ask how much each item is, either by weight or by quantity, watch them weigh it (all part of the experience anyways), so you don’t get SCAMMED into paying marked up prices. Once that’s done, go inside, sit down and wait for them to cook the live seafood a you just picked.

It’s good and cheap! Delicious food. If you are a seafood lover, I would definitely make a stop. Mind you, servers are not very friendly. Since they are always so busy.
