My husband and I recently did a day trip to Shenzen. We booked it in Hong Kong through a travel agent. It cost HK600 each plus HK200 each for the visa. That is about $100 Aust each. No complaints about the price or the efiiciciency of the guide. We had first gone to the China Travel firm who issue visas and they refused to issue one to us a the University games were on in Shenzen and they refused to issue a visa before Aug 25th- when we would well and truly have been back in Australia. So we went with the travel firm and no problem. However ALL firms that offer a day trip to Shenzen can offer different "places to visit- which are included in the tour.. We happened to get a trip that included first car train return to China(excellent) a trip to the Terracotta warriors exhibition. We saw just 3 pieces- very well preserved but no photos allowed. Then after 5 mins viewing there we were taken to a showroom to view jade. Obviosly the travel firm and guide are on a commission because she wouldn't move until some people had bought pices of jade. Hence we were there for a very boring 1 and a quarter hours. Then off to a silk factory- same story. Another hour wasted. Then a trip to the Shenzen museum- very interesting, a quick stop at a park that had replicas of all famous landmarks of the world such as Eiffel tower etc. Alas only a very few were on display outside- all the rest were in a stadium which we were not taken into- but still interesting. Then lunch at a country club- very nice. Then what we were all waiting for.-shopping. Some tours promise 4 hours shopping- ours stated 3. We were told only time for 2. My husband negotiated on behalf of us all and we ended up with 2 and a half hours. Then we were given the"bad news" that the customs and police were there that day and no copies could be obtained- but the "good news" was , the guide knew "a friend" who could(miraculously) help out. We were hearded to a dingy hotel room where some fakes were rolled out at exhorbitant prices. for those silly enough to fork out for them(up to $400 aust for a bag. Then at last to the shopping centre. This was for me a huge disappointment. I go every year to Penang, and do all my shopping and if you know where to go- Penang leaves Shenzen for dead. Penang is a fraction more expensive, but not much and the choice is much better. After all the LoWu mall is a shopping centre- not markets. anyway after that we went back on the train. We had left our hotel at 7am and arrived back at 7pm. Good value and well organised but as a shopping epedition we personally(and the others in our group) found it disapponting.

It is common for visitors to take a short trip to Shenzen when they visit Hong Kong. It's probably only about 45 minutes of train ride from Hong Kong. It's pretty much like any other huge Asian metropolitan. Prices of goods and food here are slightly cheaper compared to Hong Kong. The nightlife is quite vibrant. The overall experience was neither overwhelming or underwhelming.

It is usually part of the itinerary of any tourist visiting Hong Kong to include therein a slot for a side visit to Shenzen - a vibrant city akin to Hong Kong and a good example of the sensational economic development that China has demonstrated to the world in the past four decades or so. A tourist needs to spare just one day for such a visit which can include a soothing body or foot massage and a sumptuous meal apart from shopping as one desires!
I undertook such a visit a while ago and worth mentioning first is the buffet my friends, my wife and I had in a facility called Four Seas International House (our grateful thanks to our friend Dr Wu for choosing this) which is located in a shopping mall in an interior part of Shenzen - Window of the World Metro Station which itself is already a major tourist attraction! There was a huge variety of Chinese and other dishes spread across and around a spacious dining hall laid with superb solid wooden dining tables with cosy chairs or cushioned sofas. The buffet itself is reasonably priced and includes free soft drinks, beer and so on and almost all ingredients are pretty fresh.
That apart, either before or after the buffet one can also indulge in a relaxing foot and body massage (combined) at a place not far from the Shenzen University Metro Station. The facility called Kar Foo Foot Reflexology & Wellness has very cosy rooms with two or three well-laid comfortable massage benches in one room and there are separate wings for ladies and gents with well-furnished tidy rest rooms. The massage service itself is provided by professional masseurs both men and women and they seem to know the exact points in a body that needs some added pressure!
Wish those choosing this suggested schedule a wonderful travel experience!

I visit Shenzen city last year 2013. But the hotel girls or boys can't speak English. The Restaurant boys laughed at me while I speak english. All menus are in China. I have to practice hint language or take the help of translator in mobile. I also visit Windows of the World. Its sooo amazing

We went for a day out and a bit of shopping. A word of advice - make sure you know what you want to buy before you go and make sure you know what the latest fashion items look like. Everything is bang uptodate and bargaining is de rigour but it took us about 90 minutes to get through the border and the day Visa cost about £30 each. Interesting day out and probably only worth it (shopping wise) if you take a suitcase (like most of the others) and hit the shops with purpose and a good deal of prior knowledge of what you want, what the latest items look like and what the costs are. Then good value but for a day out ...... Better things to do!

Great experience on a day tour to shenzen from Hongkong by Metro, found the city very neat and clean, visit to "windows of the world" was tremendous fun. The Bollywood cafe had a great authentic Indian food, dal tadka, chaat papdi, naam and many other dishes makes you feel you are in an Indian restaurant in India.

We chose to book the shopping tour to Shenzhen through Viator. It was well organised, our escort Yvonne was very friendly and explained everything well, and was well organised
The company sorted all train tickets and visas which saved us a lot of time and trouble.
Once in China we met our guide Vicky - she was sweet and also knowledgeable and made the day pleasant.
The visit to Lichi park was nice and relaxing - the meridian centre interesting- but the jade and silk factory (which was a bamboo product warehouse) were ok/so so.
Lunch was organised at the shangri-la which was a very nice and unexpected bonus- and our vegetarian request was easily sorted.
The shopping centre at LoWu was much better than we had expected going by other reviews. We were hardly hassled and those who tried to interact and invite you in were all polite and accepted no if we weren't interested. Prices however not hugely amazing- even with bartering - they worked out about the same as Hong Kong markets. Shops very repetitive- in fact Yvonne gave us the option for an extra half hour there but no one needed or wanted it.
All in all a fun and interesting day out.

We came there only because of a package from Hong Kong to Shenzen, China. From the start of tour (in Hong Kong) our tour guide were telling that they are a separate country from China- she was really in conviction that they are not part of it and they are just a small country separated from it. When we came in China, the tour guide was telling that HK is a part of their big country which made us confused. LOL.

We came by train from Hong Kong to Shenzen and when we arrived in the immigration for the stamps, there was no separate lane for foreigners (it's like China is the most populated country and even in our lane, most of them were just inserting themselves irregardless that people are waiting for their turn, and the control officers *police* don't bother controlling them.

Though our tour guide was so accommodating and friendly, at least, hope most of the people there would give tourists a smile. After all, they are promoting the place as a tourist destination, it would be a great help in magnetizing visitors because of their hospitality.
