Roof top BBQ at night

Nice beach
Very popular
Good nightlife in the collection of old houses that have all been converted to b&b on the beach front. Was very hot but a excellent time. Best you stay overnight and enjoy a roof top BBQ

Dapeng village beach
Oct 2019
Technically its part of the peninsula, Dapeng beach is a great sandy beach with lots of activity.
Ideal for a little paddle, there are tourist boats, jetskis, para gliding and those crazy inflatables the tow behind speedboats.
Along the beach are plenty of shops and restaurants, we stopped at a great bbq one for a meal we cooked ourselves. Worked out roughly 80Y per head.
We had an ice cream along the way, tons of choices, with or without fruit, m and ms or waffles.
Spent a good few hours there watching the world go by as we waited for the sun to go down. One word of warning, a guy came around to tell us tide was coming in so move off the beach, do it ! I have never seen a tide come in so fast and I could see people getting caught out easily.

A lovely place
Apr 2019
Dapeng is a cute little town not far from Shenzhen. The old city is amazing. There are a lot of shops, restaurants, museums, a temple... If you're into street food, you can taste whatever you're curious about free of charge and then make a decision if you're gonna buy it or not. Helps big time :)
People are very friendly. We were lucky enough to meet a local girl who spoke very good English thus gave as some historical information about the town. We didn't go to the beach but heard it's nice.
There's a special atmosphere in town, it's definitely worth a visit.

Surf town of Dapeng
May 2018
We went to a small surfing town with beautiful beaches and lots of small boutique hotels and coffee shops. It really felt like being in some exciting island somewhere.

Depeng is beautiful(?)
Aug 2014 • Couples
Maybe I went to a different Dapeng Peninsula. I stayed around Nan'Ao, went to the tip (Xichong Beach) and over to the "fortress"... I didn't see anything starkly different from the rest of the city except that far fewer people live there. There are still areas that look like half-used manufacturing sites and it is poorly maintained. The beach area across the street (Jiaochengwei, I think) from the Hakka Fortress was terrible. The beach-front area was under construction and terrible to navigate, dirty.
From my time there, there were no real taxis anywhere, which allows locals with private cars to gouge you for a ride anywhere. A normally 15kuai ride will cost you 50 at a minimum. Dapeng has/had potential but it isn't/wasn't properly utilized. It will likely only get worse as the money in Shenzhen moves west and builds more 'luxury' properties.

Dapeng is beautiful
Dec 2012 • Couples
A peninsula on the eastern edge of Shenzhen, Dapeng is an area that's rapidly changing. Come to the somewhat secluded beaches and mountain hiking trails before it's all commercialized with wall-to-wall ocean resorts. A quiet place now, with fantastic seafood. A gem on China's coast.

Beautiful town with great food! My husband and I went there to complete our Naui certification and was pleased with the visibility for the area (visibility is not always good). I enjoyed seeing the blue sky and breathing the fresh air- something that is hard to do when you live in a big city.

Off the beaten track and only 90 minutes from downtown
Mar 2013 • Couples
I stayed in Dapeng from February 22nd to March 7th. It is a very nice coastal region with natural habitats, fishing villages and seaside towns that resemble the Mediterranean beach resorts of the 1950's. I will write separately about some places I stayed during my journey. Unlike China's major cities, Dapeng is not crowded, clean and smog free.

The area is mountainous with lush valleys that flow into the ocean. There are scenic areas that include sandy beaches and rocky drop offs to the ocean reminiscent of the Irish coastline. It is a beautiful place to be and best of all it is a short bus or taxi ride from downtown Shenzhen or Hong Kong. From Hong Kong, take a bus or subway to the Luo Hu border crossing. From there you can catch a buss to Dapeng or take a taxi for about 120 RMB (roughly $20 US).

There are many Inns and Hotels in Dapeng. Almost none are listed in international booking sites. I found a specialty site called WWW.DPJOURNEY.COM that focuses on the Dapeng Peninsula. The site is locally produced with insight on Inns, sites and landmarks. It is in Mandarin. I have someone who translates for me but you can also use one of the many internet translation services (i.e. like google translate or yahoo's babelfish).

It is definitely worth a side trip to Dapeng, and i you have the time it is worth spending a week there. You will not be disappointed and find yourself in a beautiful setting that seems to have gone back in time.
