…this is a place worth visiting when in Shenzhen, for sure. The range of animals on offer to see is excellent and kids will LOVE it! Getting so close to pandas in particular is great when you think how rare they are and how sought after at zoos round the world. We didn’t even get to see everything and left happy nonetheless. However paying 200 yuan per adult and then having to fork out money for the ice zone, the road train, the karts, the dinosaur zone…it really took something away from the experience.

This is a fun day out. Set in a beautiful fairly well groomed park the animals appear to be very happy and well managed so no disappointments. The Pandas were a delight to watch - fun playing and eating whilst the highlight is for s small fee to hop into a caged truck and drive into the Lion and Tiger enclosures. whilst inside you are provided with a fresh chicken on a skewer to poke out of the cage for it to be ripped off the end by a hungry tiger. This is really a get up close to the predators experience and is great fun. The park is quite large and spacious so for those who get tired there is a little mini bus that for a small fee will drop and pick you up from prime spot to prove spot. the entertainment was also fun with traps bears and monkeys mixed with dance and fire.

This is a day outing if you are a family with young children. The park is very organised and hosts a wide range of animals. The Lion Safari is worth the money if you want to get up close and personal with the beasts and feed them. My two year old loved it. The only downside is that there is very little information about the animals in English. Apart from that, there is a small park with rides for kids and adults - but the tickets for the rides when you purchase the entrance tickets - rides are more expensive inside. There are also some fast food (Chinese) restaurants scattered around the park. The park also has timed performances which are worth watching.

It's huge in area and very near to a metro station. Price excellent RMB99 entrance fee with Klook apps. The place is very well maintained and clean. We particularly like the tiger feeding activity. We had queued up for 1.5 hour before boarding a shuttle from where the tigers were fed. All passengers were inside the shuttle and each was give a BBG fork with a small chicken thigh. The scene was so astonishing when the tigers opened their mouths wide for our meat.
I have been to zoos or safaris in many countries eg Europe, Africa, Asia. This one in Shenzhen is magnificent and must-go !

The zoo is one of my favorites as it has many varieties of animals, birds, fishes, etc., a showground and an amusement park. It is a large zoo and it takes a good 2-3 hours to walk around leisurely. One could feed the tigers and lions from inside a caged car, to get a close encounter with these wild animals. They are extremely fast in seizing the chicken meat. A must-see in Shenzhen. Go on a sunny day with relatively cool weather; the animals and birds will appear very active and happy. On a hot, cold or rainy day, they will normally hide away.

Shenzhen zoo is Nanshan district, can take metro to Xili station and further take cab - about 15 mins drive. It is nice place, but ticket price (RMB200) is not worth it. Park is non smoking with designated areas for smoking, still can see Chinese people smoking all over park. Animals seem to be underfed and not clean. Many enclosures were quite smelly. At circus anybody can see live example of severe animal cruelty - Trainer instead of rewarding animals - hitting and poking metal stick regularly during performance.
Pony Ride - all pony looked tired and week, although it was morning time and park just opened for day !!
Caged bus ride to feed tigers (RMB50/person) includes you get one time to feed small pc of chicken to underfed tiger. This price goes up depending on crowd. Accompanying guide will advise you (in Chinese) to let tiger jump on bus few times before feeding small pc of chicken.
I would not recommend and not visit again.

This place would put a 19th Century circus to shame. Tigers are forced to perform to loud music, bears ride bicycles, monkeys jump through flaming hoops. Many animals look malnourished and desperate. I felt like I was in North Korea. Truly, inexpressibly and indelibly shameful.

This park is great. Take the subway to University Town station. Park is about 1.4kms from station but a nice straight walk along the main road. Park will be indicated on top road signs. Everyone loved it. Plenty of animals in good shape and very close to see. There are some free shows but check the times. Best way to explore the park is walking around. Do not take mini transport. You can feed the girafe, get on elephant back, take a pic with parrot against additional small fee like RMB10 or RMB20 but worth it. No rush. Well worth the RMB200. Better start very early if you want to explore the whole zoo at a relaxed pace. Coming back from the zoo, we stopped at a small food market before the station and had some really nice food prepared on spot. Best day in Shenzhen.

I stayed in Shenzhen for 12 days and this is by far the best thing I did. The zoo was amazing, the main reason being that aswell as seeing the animals you could also interact them. By paying an extra 10-20 RMB it was possible to feed both giraffes, bears and elephants, and for 50 RMB you can go in a caged truck to feed the tigers. There are also a number of shows available at the zoo including a water show with dolphins and seals.
After reading some of the reviews here I thought that there would be some level of cruelty at the zoo, however, I did not witness anything cruel. The performing animals are rewarded with food throughout their performances and the trainers treat them with respect and compassion.
The zoo is easily accessible by taxi which does not cost much. There is also a bus which goes directly to the zoo which costs 2 RMB but I can't remember the number of the bus!
Overall I would highly recommend visiting this attraction.

If we take the MTR from HK to LoWu and get on Shenzen metro at Luohu, what stop do we take get to the zoo?
How long does it take to get from HK-Central Station to zoo?
Written January 15, 2015
The zoo is at University Town station. So from Luohu (green line), I would go north to Laojie. Then change to go further north to Buji (blue line). At Buji, change and go west to University Town (violet line). It will take you about 45 mins to get there from Luohu.
When you reach University Town, use Exit C (stay on the road side of the exit) and go North on Lishan Road (i.e. go right at Exit C) until it ends at Lishui Road, then left/west short distance until it ends at Xili Road and finally go right/north a short distance and the entrance will be on the right/east of the street. It is about 1.4km walk (another 20 mins). There will be brown direction signs to the park at the level of street lights i.e. above your head.
So plan your journey well knowing that you would want to be there as early as possible so that the kids can enjoy all the animals and also see the shows without being in a hurry i.e. you can sit at times and rest.
There are other attractions inside the zoo for kids and adults e.g. inflatable balloon on the lake (kids love it), getting on elephant's back, the dolphins show, feed the bears. Some are free but others are for a small fee like 10 or 20 yuans. But well worth them if this is the first time to a big zoo.
I also suggest doing the visit on foot rather than by mini bus. you can then take all your time. Enjoy.
