One doesn't associate Shenzhen with great unforgettable tourist experiences but I thought as it was close to Guangzhou, why not visit Shenzhen's Splendid China theme park via high speed rail after my business trip? My wife and I paid the RMB200 entrance tickets ( there were some ticket touts offering tickets at rmb15 discount but we ignored them). Upon entry, I discovered we have to pay an optional rmb30 to get onto the open air bus ride. As it was a hot and humid day, we took the bus ( or do you called that a train?) as the walk through the park seems formidable. I feel it's worthwhile paying the extra rmb30. The highlight of this theme park is basically the free shows at 5 pm and 7.30 pm. It was spectacular, and the cast easily numbered more than 80. Great acrobatic feats and superb costumes. The food is reasonably priced and I feel not as bad as what some reviewers made it to be. Overall, if you are in Shenzhen, Splendid China theme park is a must. I would say you have to spend at least half a day here to enjoy the many attractions here. I was here at about 3 pm and the crowd was relatively thin as it was a hot Monday afternoon.

Makes such a nice change from LoWu's chaos and noise. It's very open, a nice park and some nice restaurants. Not at all what you expect from Shenzhen. Takes 40 minutes from Lo Wu or 20 minutes from Futian but both cab journeys are super cheap.

Trendy cafes, designer exhibitions, hidden bars all make up the OCT Lofts. Gardens and flowers make it a truly relaxing place to hang out. It's easily accessible from the metro by a 15 to 20 minutes walk. Frequent craft markets are also held there.

This is an area of shenzhen that has many different things to offer. Located at its own metro stop OCT, there is loads to see and do. It has splendid china theme park attraction, art museum and art gallery, many shops and restaurants and a walmart. The area itself is really pretty to look at, clean and well maintained. I frequent this place very often as I live local
