City and so much more
Oct 2019
I dont often give 5 stars and especially after getting food poisoning but this was a wonderful stay in the city. Friends recommended we stay inside the city walls, so we booked 2 nights right in the middle near the square. The place we stayed in was big enough for 4 people, double bed downstairs and 2 beds upstairs, bathroom complete with family of huge spiders and a mahjong table for the evenings. Peak Chinese holiday so it cost 150Y per person. For a photographer like me it was well worth the money to be able to go around the streets early before the hordes arrive, and do they arrive. Be prepared to be bumped and pushed by millions of people in the narrow streets. I can recommend wearing sunglasses to save your eyes from umbrellas. All the women carry them and none have any concern for other people, the just walk in their own little bubble. I have 2 scratches on my glasses and 1 cut on my cheek through the brollies. There are lots of little streets and old buildings to see here, plus if you look carefully extras. The story of coffee, little museum that obviously tells a story of my staple diet. Chinese shadow puppets, for 10Y they will give you a show and then let you backstage to have a try. Couples having wedding photos in costumes around the square. You can easily spend a whole day inside the city, then just wander outside and there is more. The beach, have a paddle or go on the tourist boats. The Buddhist temple, beautiful working monastery with a walk up to see over the town. If you want to eat I would say venture outside the gates and find a local restaurant, 2 of us had chicken on sticks from the stalls and both sick within half an hour. Drinks are reasonably priced so no need to worry about finding them. Souvenir shops were quite cheap too, I picked up a Chairman Mao espresso cup for 5Y. It is a fair trek to get to Dapeng so prepare well, it is really worth the effort. I live along the coast and it still took our taxi 45 mins, the buses take 2 hours. If you are in the heart of Shenzhen I believe the E11 bus may be the choice.

I love the ancient towns of China. The Dapeng Ancient City is especially beautiful when lit at night. we had a pleasant walk in the town and an enjoyable dinner. People are friendly and helpful.

Worth the trip out
Jun 2019 • Family
This place is an ancient fort with lots of interesting little shops and a great view into the past of this once important landing and trading area.

Inside the fort in one of the many little walkways was eating places, which was nice to have a rest out of the sun. After walking through the various areas it was a short hop across the busy road to a long but thin beach area. Our young children enjoyed it very much but a umbrella is needed to shade you from the strong sun.

The whole front area is a mix of bed & breakfasts with restaurants. Next we will stay for a weekend to explore the surrounding area.

Definitely a worthy trip to come here compared to the other beaches.

Place carrying history about ancient Chinese life, emperor house and beautiful beach near
Apr 2019 • Family
It's a 1 HR drive from Shenzhen and my manager took us as gratitude of thanks.journey is full of tunnels and complete green everywhere.its beautiful and it became more with rain drizzle.after reaching ancient city we parked the vehicle and took a walk after eating tofu😀 in local street shop.
Lot of different shops, different cuisine and confused where to start.restrooms are neat and place is beautiful, silent and we can also feel calmness in us and we visited emperor house, temple and many family.
If you want to know how people are and how they lived it's must place to visit.
Beach is just walkable distance .
I loved it

Very cool to see an ancient Chinese architecture. Great place to go for a unique photo shoot. While I was there for the buildings, others were there for their wedding photos.

Nice old town
Nov 2017
This is no nice old town. Tot popular touristic sport for foreigners but worth to visit for Shenzhen visitors. Probably the best old town in neighborhood of Shenzhen.

Little hidden Treasure of Shenzhen
Jan 2017
The small City itself is hidden from the main Dapeng Town, From Shenzhen Luohu district, the fastest transport to Dapeng is via H92, from Dapeng to Ancient City Museum is M471.

Within The Ancient City, one could explore around the nice beaches, temple and strawberry farms. There are a lot of small inns offering affordable rates. Go for at least 2-3 days to enjoy the peace.

It will be a little dark during the night but it's a relatively safe city to walk.

Fun place to see an Ancient Chinese Village
Apr 2016 • Friends
This was a fun little stop we took for about two hours. There are ancient streets and buildings with a lot of great photo ops. 2 hours was an adequate amount of time to see everything.

Worth a visit if you're in the area, not if not
Aug 2014 • Couples
The area is fairly isolated, so it isn't worth a trip out there just to visit this. Some parts of the walled enclosure are neat, but the whole thing can be walked in about an hour or so. you can scale two of the towers and take some pictures, but there isn't a whole lot else to do in there
