It was great to get in the water to cool down, albeit, it was noisy and crowded. It is a very good beach area, with many restaurants, cafes, and bars. The beach is long, with a winding road at the end furthest from the Sheraton Dameisha Resort. The walkway at the other end is rocky at spots, so wear appropriate footwear.

Beautiful long beach. Gets very rocky at the far end from the Sheraton. Water is nice and clear. Beach sand is nice to walk on.

The beach is nice, long, and has lots of nice beach sand. It was crowded in places, but all the visitors seemed friendly and accommodating.

This is a pleasant spot, but parts were closed due to damage from typhoon previous week. The art and gardens make for a pleasant stroll

This is Shenzhen’s longest (length of 1.1 miles) and most beautiful, sandy beaches. Dameisha is a beautiful area with the sea and beaches on one side, and mountains on the other. It is located in the Yantian district, of Shenzhen. The water clarity and quality is about average for a large, city-beach.

The beach has a number of very unique, winged, angel-like sculptures, which were designed to be symbols of happiness.

The beach is visitor-friendly with lots of public toilets and even lockers you can use for safe-keeping your valuables and other possessions.

On summer sunny days, the beach will be sardine-can crowded with people.

Weekend crowds can sometimes approach 50,000 or more. It is a favourite beach getaway of many Shenzhen residents. Many companies have training centres here. Thus, weekday visits are best and hotels rates lower.

If you are going to Dameisha Beach from Shenzhen on a weekend, consider taking the train, so as to avoid hours of waiting in slow moving traffic.

Being close to Shenzhen, hotels are a touch on the expensive side. We paid US$275 per night for a beach view room.

For great fresh, take a walk on the four-kilometre Dameisha-Yantian portion of the seaside promenade. For greater exercise and breathtaking views, one can walk the entire 19.5 kilometre Yantian seashore plank road. The sea plank road built around Dameisha is the longest in the world.

This beach is extremely overcrowded and absolutely filthy. The water is filled with trash. There are much nicer beaches further east in dapeng, jinshawan and xichong for example. I would definitely recommend going there instead.

As a general rule, I try to withhold the “for China” disclaimer. Example: “For China, this is a pretty good place...” So, I compare this spot against all other beaches I’ve visited.

Dameisha beach is dirty, always overcrowded, and closes at dusk (contrary to the hours listed here). There is always trash, coming both from the ocean and the people who come to visit. With the completion of the new metro line, the crowds will only continue to get worse. Is it the worst beach in Shenzhen? Probably not. Is it a good beach? Not at all.

If you want to get sand between your toes, I recommend going on a weekday. Avoid it on weekends.

Dameisha was the first beach I have ever visited in China and I have seen photos from travel blogs that enticed me to travel a long way by bus to get there. I wasn't expecting much from the beach but when we went there, it was some sort of a holiday and there were around 44,000 people who were also visiting that day. At the entrance, they do have a counter so you can see how much people are visiting that day. I loved the fact that there were outlet shops and restaurants just across the road. I also adored the giant angel statues that they put on the beach although the sand was dirty and there were food wrappers almost everywhere. I don't know if it's just because of the day I visited or it's normally there. I didn't dare swim nor walk by the shore. I didn't want to ruin my day so I just I just enjoyed a cup of coffee at Pacific. Public transportation was also challenging as you can only reach Dameisha by bus or taxi. When we decided to leave late in the afternoon, we were surprised to see that there was also a huge crowd waiting for buses and taxis. We waited for 5 hours until we were able to get a ride home and that is not through bus nor taxi but through a good samaritan in a van who took pity on the people waiting and called out to anyone who will be going to the same area as where he lives. He did charge us RMB 10 per person but we were more than grateful, at least we were able to get home safely.

I don't think I'll ever go back to Dameisha for the beach. Maybe for the outlets, I will. And yeah, never on a holiday weekend. EVER.

There are two primary public beaches in ShenZhen. The largest, is DaMeiSha. It requires a fee to enter. The smaller one is ShaoMeiSha and is free. Both are very crowded. Both are dirty and polluted, though DaMeiSha is cleaned daily. You can rent a tent at DaMeiSha and spend the night on the beach, drinking beer and swimming and lighting fireworks. Heck, this is China you can do anything you want.

It is popular and thus is crowded. It is China crowded. You can rent a car or take a bus to get to it. It is a good day trip to spend with your friends. I advise and recommend it, but not every day.
