Charming Ming & Qing Dynasties Village
Apr 2021
A lovely ancient village of the Hakka ethnic group, with some buildings of Hakka architecture. Many of the structures appear to be replicas of what they looked like in ancient times.

Interesting Place
May 2021 • Friends
This place is great if you want to take a lot of photos. It's got an old Chinese feel to it, yet modern enough to catch everyone's eye. They have lots of little shops and food vendors.

Ancient town with an additional fee charging museum and garden

A place with old buildings, little alleys, and watchtower. Shops vary from on the spot craft and snack making ones to chain stores even a KFC.

Shenzhen's little ancient town
Oct 2019
To my local friends this is better known as Gankeng Hakka Town. It is an ancient town located in the centre of Shenzhen. The latter, by contrast, is the youngest of China's large cities.

Interesting surprise
Apr 2019 • Friends
When friends suggested a day trip to visit this Hakka town in Shenzhen, I was curious. Gankeng Ke Little Town was not what I expected. For one, it's quite large, taking the better part of 6 hours to explore most of it, and there is quite a lot to explore if you want to go through each and every narrow alleyway and climb stairs to the buildings on the hill above. We skipped the garden bit, the only part that was ticketed. the alley festooned with windchimes was particularly memorable for the cheerful tinkles in the breeze.

The restoration could be more sensitive using traditional materials as opposed to vast amounts of concrete, makes some parts downright ugly in broad daylight. But come sundown, with the red lanterns shining, the place truly comes alive, very atmospheric.

Lots of snack food places, not many restaurants for now. Still a great day trip from Hong Kong. It's only 40 minutes from the border if you a rent a cal.

Day tripping to Gankeng Hakka Town
Nov 2018 • Friends
This was surprisingly nice day trip. I wasn't expecting to find any traditional neighborhoods in modern Shenzhen. Boy was I wrong. This traditional Hakka village had been restored and is being expanded or seems. There are cool traditional buildings to explore. Lots of shops to buy things and Good food to eat. Great idea for a day trip of your in Shenzhen or nearby HongKong. Read our full review on our site.
