Forget the water park! Rent a bike and ride around Honghua Lake's 18 km Scenic Road for the most refreshing and healthy experience while visiting Huizhou. All types of bikes from street bikes to racing bikes to fax max bikes to two-person and three-person tandem units offer every bike choice imaginable, including youth sizes. No electric bikes here, so pedal to pump up your heart and muscle health! Plan on 2-hours minimum with brief stops along the way or spend half to a full day enjoying the beauty of the hilltop lake and its surrounding areas.

The lake is a very nice walk but there are many serious cyclist there, so I would say that the facilities seem to be mainly designed to provide a rather perfect track for cyclists to encourage a healthy lifestyle in Huizhou.

This place has three main areas of visit, the Hong Hua (Red Flower) lake is part of the (much bigger) West Lake of GuangDong's HuiZhou. Not to be confused with the West Lake of ZheJiang's HangZhou. The walking path around the Hong Hua lake is well maintained, and has many "breaks" in the shapes of pavilions, which are like viewing points. A tourist can take a breather break at these pavilions. Also, there are a couple of places where you can hire, either a paddle boat, or an electric boat to cruise around the lake. I found half an hour to be enough. You could also take a boat "bus", which seats about 18 passengers, if you don't want the personal boats.
On the other end, there's the West Lake, which is more for bicycling with an 18 kilometres circular track around the major part of the lake.
There also is another attraction for climbing. That's the GaoBang Hill. I did the hill late evening and was rewarded by a very well lit up pavilion at the peak. Also a good view of the city of HuiZhou.
I must appreciate that the authorities have put in the extra efforts to keep the area very clean, especially during the National Day week-long vacation, when the inflow of tourists is HUGE.
If you really want to do justice to visiting this attraction, make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes.

The best place to ride a bike I've ever seen. The road is around the beautiful lake, no cars. A lot of red flowers grow on the both sides of the road. There are not so many people (but a bit crowded on weekends).
A bike rental is very cheap near the bus stop , 20 RMB ($3) / day and even cheaper with the discount.

It's a pretty steep climb to the entrance but once you get there, it's beautiful. You can walk or bike or ride the tram around the perimeter.

18 good solid km, not at all hard, albeit entrance is a bit of a climb. Many small vendors rent out bikes at reasonable prices. We started in the dry, but ended up getting soaked in rain. Highly recommended for a brief exercise trip. Fresh air and not overcrowded.

Not a place to go out of your way to visit, but certainly a pleasant enough spot. Best time to visit is during the cooler autumnal season when the sky is clear; the weather isn't too humid but the park is still very green. Most people visiting rent a bike from one of the shops at the park entrance and cycle along the 18-kilometer track looping around the lake.
